I just heard on the news that all Starbucks cups for little children have been recalled. And that Banquet Pot Pies have been recalled. They also said that they expect more pot pies to be recalled.

Trudy The paper I read this a.m. said the pies were not recalled. The company it appears is trying to say the problem is that consumers don't cook the pies long enough. People were advised to throw the pies out , return for a refiund or get a coupon for more pies. I felt when I read this article that the government was going to allow Conagra not to recall. The government must protect the businesses not the people!

I also heard that too. And heard that [maybe] the pies have salmonila in them. I don't trust the maybe. And they did say kids had gotten sick? Who knows?

Just talking about people food here.

Well, you know, this is getting just a little ridiculous now.  Is it really Salmonella or is it something else?  Is the next plan here to starve us or what?  Are they making the USA produced food look bad to justify importing everything?

Is this the major food recall "du jour" or what?

Let's see...we hardly grow any edible crops here anymore.  Almost everything is GMO.  What's left?  I really don't like meat anyway.  I think I'm doing a big garden next year, if I can find non-gmo seeds that is.

Something smells rotten in Denmark.

Maybe the Banquet pot pies are imported from China. ConAgra is deeply imbedded there along with Monsonto, ADM, DuPont etc.

The company included beef pot pies in the recall after initially saying only the chicken and turkey pot pies should not be eaten"

       "ConAgra announced Wednesday that it had resumed making pot pies at the Marshall, Mo., plant, and the company expects the pies to return to stores sometime in January.

USDA spokeswoman Amanda Eamich said details of the inspectors' findings at the plant would be released only through a formal Freedom Of Information Act request."

This is exactly what I've been wondering since the various salmonella-tainted foods & pet foods started this year.

Salmonella has always been a potential threat with poultry and just following good hygeine in the kitchen with the raw juices and thoroughly cooking poultry has taken care of any potential threat.

What's so different now, I ask myself?

To me, all the recent salmonella-related issues/recalls are too suspicious.  Do you think it's possible some Chinese-raised poultry slipped in to some of the various companies' products over the last several months -- perhaps chickens from veterinary offices or approved slaughterhouses??  Remember the advisories about handling the dry pet food with extreme caution?  We were almost made to think we had to wear Haz-Mat suits when doing so...

An update from Nov. 28, 2008 says that 401 people last year were stricken ill.  Nearly 1/3 of the people had to be hospitalized.  It also said that for each reported case, there were probably 38 UNreported cases:

Everyone in my family thinks I am completely obsessive-compulsive for sticking a thermometer in everything I cook containing meat.  But I feel really vindicated now. 

Still, I am suspicious of all the salmonella these days.  Something isn't right with that.  The good news, although not completely comforting, is that high heat breaks a lot of harmful bonds.  (and good ones...)

Could the salmonella be becoming antibiotic (or what ever they do to cure you/kill it) resistant?

Think about it for a moment . . .  closing the pet food plants because they "can't find the source"? Has China developed a super bug or have we?

OH, and while I'm at it, who washes their poultry? And why? Unless you're washing it in boiling water or using anti-bacterial scrub, are you doing anything other than spreading said contaminants around? And why is it legal to sell chickens that are so high risk we need to have sep butcher boards, wash up after looking at it etc? Salmonella, if you listen to the FDA, is dangerous enough that we can't use human dishes to feed our pets because of the pet food, but they can sell chickens that more than likely have it? Don't mind me, I'm in the Twilight Zone . . . .  Shocked
