Prediction #5 ...I think it is very possible  and >  60% chance...how about you... Angry

Health Ranger Offers Thirty-One Predictions for 2009 - Health, Economy, Terrorism and More

Prediction #5 - Melamine scandal widens, envelops meal replacement products
Confidence in prediction: 60%

The melamine scandal will widen in 2009, and trace amounts of melamine will be found in popular meal replacement products, all of which are essentially "adult infant formula" made by the same companies that make the infant formula now found to be contaminated with trace amounts of melamine.

Manufacturers will resist recalls, and the FDA will be under increasing fire to revoke its 1ppm "safe level" announcement, replacing it with a decision based on science, not business interests.

Sub-prediction: Eventually, it will be discovered that the melamine contamination is caused by animal feed used at dairy farms. Although this discovery may not come until 2010 - 2012, it will result in calls for widespread changes in the feed practices of dairy farms. Sales of milk products will plummet temporarily, then recover steadily as American consumers forget about the scandal and keep chugging contaminated cow's milk.

90% probability (its the dilution factor - remember?)

If they dare to test - Melemine in all products except most produce (depends on pesticides, fertilization, etc.)

Expand from milk products to meat and all processed foods.

How about that one?

I think the probability is even higher.  And I agree that the industry will resist
recalls.  They won't want to admit that they knew all along they were selling
contaminated products for children and the elderly and infirm.  What a scandal.

What a scandal indeed! Just think of all the money medical places will rake in with the upward tremendous increase in kidney problems. Will dialysis become the norm for people, babies and animals with failing kidneys? Think of all the money involved and what about the people who do not have insurance? or even Pet insurance? Do they just end up how exactly?

I'm with catbird on this. 60% is way to low!
