Shredded wheat bits and All Bran are on today's grocery list because we want to add fiber to Jake's diet in a number of ways.  I'd planned to get major labels and not store brands, but still I wonder if we'd be poisoning him instead of trying to make him healthy.  Also, I thought I would eat a spoonful of these myself when giving it to him to help make him more interested, working into a between meal snack while counting carbs in my eating plan.  I'm skeptical about anything we don't make from scratch around here and that includes breakfast.

Carolo is this organic wheat and bran your buying? Careful, might be buying genetically modified cwap. Don't want Jake to have any kind of set back as he just went thru enough. Why not try pumpkin for fiber - the organic 100% kind? It is sold in cans. Had some for my dog too.

Jake doesn't like canned pumpkin!  He is eating baked sweet potato ea night now, and I'm occasionally mixing in some canned pumpkin.  He's reluctant when I do but usually still cleans his bowl.  The two cereals are from major brands and not store brands, but today that doesn't mean much.

Well there are other things for fiber than pumpkin if he just doesn't like it. My dog does along with asparagus and artichokes too. My last dog liked all kinds of fruit but this one is more the vegetable nut. With the Orijen my baby gets the fiber but since you have Jake off the Orijen I can see where you need to find fiber sources. We have garnet yams and when organic yams or sweet potatoes are on sale buy those.

JJ, Jake was on Orijen when the vet said he needed more fiber.  He's eating lots of veggies.  Yesterday I held my breath and offered All Bran, just a couple of tablespoons.  It looks as if it is made from cardboard, but Jake liked it.  A friend gives it to her dogs and swears by this as a source of added fiber to help them clear their anal glands.  Her dogs live into their teens, so I guess if it hasn't killed them over this length of time Jake can have it for a few months?

Guess if bran will do the trick. Trying an experiment of sorts in my home. Read on the one site that dogs and cats should live 20 or 30 years with good food and clean water. Last dog had cancer from all the lovely, healthy food that they tell you is so good for your pet IMO, so now this dog has an organic/home cooked diet to see if she will live 20 years, maybe more, and have the insides of a 10 year old dog.

I also nominate Peg to the volunteer position of Inspector 501. She would do such a thorough job - nothing would get past her.

HUH?

OOPS, reread thread, I get it now - sorry.  Huh  Shocked
