1  Other/Misc / Recall (Non-Pet Food) / Re: melamine found in US made baby formula on: November 26, 2008, 03:23:25 PM
How long have these idiots been putting melamine and other hazordous chemicals in infant formulas and  other products ? How many people who were fighting cancer and were using these special drinks have had adverse effects and died after drinking this crap??

It is time for government to stop protecting the outlaws and to start protecting the people!!

3  General Pet Information / Law and Politics About Pets / Re: Prop 2 passed- great for farm animals on: November 10, 2008, 03:29:59 PM
Prop. 2 is a start, it is not enough! Dogs in puppy mills are allowed the same space requirements- they must be able to stand up, turn around, & lay down with limbs out streched.  This does not allow for ant type of exercise! This is usda requirement.
4  General Pet Information / Against Animal Abuse and Cruelty / Re: Puppy Mill Monster Charged--Still In Business on: October 10, 2008, 05:45:02 PM
These conditions are deplorable. Sadly they are more the notm than the unusual. When the APHIS inspectors go to these commericial breeding kennels many times they do not look at every dog. These dogs spend their lifes walking on wire, spinning in circles, drinking out of lick-its, never drinking out of a bowl. Drinking out of lick-its does not allow the water to get around their teeth flushing out food, thus the teeth rot. They are bred every heat until they die.

How can we stop these breeders? Don't buy puppys from pet stores, don't buy puppys over the internet. If you call a breeder after seeing an ad in the paper and when you arrive at their business they refuse to allow you to see where they keep the parents, run don't walk out of there! Reputable breeders won't let you in the area they keep new  born pups , as a rule they are proud to show off their kennel. Reputable breeders don't keep dogs on wire. Reputable breeders don't breed a female until it is 2 years old. They don't breed them every heat until they die.

Attend town meetings in your area . Ask for local laws that protect the animals and the environment. Make sure your state doesn't allow calling dogs farm animals. Don't allow dogs to be put under the right to farm act.

There are 3 rescued labs laying at my feet one was going to hanged at 13 weeks because she had displaced knee caps, one went from puppy mill to pet store and back to puppy mill. He was trained with a switch. The little female cocker laying at my feet had to have both eyes removed because of untreated glaucoma and cherry eye. She is now a canine good citizen and volunteers in a nursing home. Anothe rlittle coker came with sores on hi testicles from sitting on wire. He had never walked on the ground. He was born in Lancaster county, sold in the ohio dog auction, then sold again , then given to me at age 5. He had never walked on the ground and panicked the first time he was on grass. These dogs can adjust when rescued but it takes lots of tlc.
5  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Your Problems with Pet Food / Re: New Consumer affairs.com/Nutro Article on: October 09, 2008, 11:53:31 AM
I had started a new post on this and then took it down. If you go to http://www.recalls.org/vet08.html
you will see in May 08 they have posted the recall for  diamond products Nutro Nuggets Lamb meal and rice formula. Resaon for recall melamine. As Menusux so graciously pointed out this could mean they are trying to still recall this product as they may not have gotten all of it back. The product codes and lot numbers are posted on the web site. They are also posted on the fds site for the 07 recalls.

In searching for melamine test on animals I found this patent. The dates are interesting or rather scary. This patent is for making feed with melamine in it.

DB Thanks for the info. If melamine passes through the body in a short period of time is it excreted as melamine? If it mixes  with other chemicals how much of the mix can the systems of animals and take before there is organ damage?

"MOTHER EARTH NEWS " Oct./Nov. 2008 issue has a very good article on aminopyralid and clopyralid . It appears some weed killers that pass through animals guts, stored in a compost pile. was then used on garden beds, killed the plants as the chemical had survived, beyond its half life!!!

http://www.motherearthnews.com/Organic-Gardening/2008-10-01/Aminopyralid-Garden-Threat.aspx

Now I really wonder about Melamine and how long it survives .

This article is a very good article.

IMHO the chinese government was able to get the WHO  to follow the lead of our FDA ( Freakin dillution agency) to agree with the minimal allowable amounts of melamine. We must protect the chinese companys from financial losses.

When do the people get protection from this crap?

12  Other/Misc / Off Topic (No Politics) / Re: Government considers 85 billion bailout/socialization of insurance giant AIG on: September 26, 2008, 02:45:44 PM
IMHO I don't think we sgould bail any of these financial institutions out. I have little faith in the investigation that is being conducted by the F.B.I. Will we ever hear what the truth is or will we be kept in the dark?

They are asking for $700 billion to bail out the financial groups (many foreign owned) . The government o.k.'d  a $600 billion farm bill. With the acception of food stamps for needy, IMHO farm subsidies need to be stopped. The news recently stated that 3 major auto makers want $25 billion each to help them develop more economical autos. We the tax payer pay for the building of sports arenas. Let look at the number of millionaire football , baseball, basketball and etc. players Let them build their own arenas. WHAT Happens to free enterprize? Have we become a socialist country?
