Thanks JustMe..
After reading the link that you provided, I will not try the Nature's logic...Thanks very much..
I am now mixing the following foods...Orijen Senior, TWO Ocean Blue, and Wellness Core (reduced Fat)...I am also homcooking about 5 nites a week, it's the best I can do...
In a couple of months I will be adding the Honest kitchen in with the mix...It is expensive, but life would be even more expensive without my buddy.....
Thanks

How can we get a list of which pet food companies use products that  come from China, either as finished products or raw materials used in pet foods...

Then we could narrow down our choices and we can make more informed decisions.......

It is really getting even worse....We should at least ban all food for humans and pets made or processed or touched by China....

In the meantime if we are possibly slowly hurting our animals anyway with processing and unknown ingredients ::::::

I HAVE GIVEN PERMISSION TO MY DOG TO DRINK, SMOKE, AND LISTEN TO ALL THE RAP MUSIC THAT HE WANTS ...................

What vices are you going to give your pets !!!

35  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Dog Food Experiences By Brand / Re: Timberwolf Organics dry on: August 14, 2007, 06:48:39 AM
I am using the TWO Ocean Blue. Some days I mix 1/2 of this with 1/2 of Orijen Senior. My dog seems to be doing great on the Ocean Blue . I also just bought the Wellness Core and will be mixing that as well with the Orijen and TWO Ocean Blue..

I like the fish protein of the Ocean Blue and also the 26% total protein, however I am worried about the Mercury content of the fish used. I also homecook a little with hard boiled eggs 2 times a week, and either chicken or hamburger 2 times a week also..

My dog also gets 2 cans of Evangers per week and Apple sauce and cottage cheese. The only grains he gets are from the Old Mother Hubbard mini biscuits that he's always had. I don't like the wheat flower, but he only gets 5 or 6 mini biscuits per day...

I spoke with Joel Evanger, president of Evangers,  back in May while I was researching and he assured me that Menadione is no longer used in their products. I believed him and I hope this is correct as my dog gets 2 cans of Evanger's a week.

But the fish in pet food, we don't know the origin. I guess this is where rotation of different protein sources comes into play. It seems even with the premium foods it's a lot of guessing and hoping....I'm glad that I'm doing some homecooked now. I just need to find something to mix with the lean hamburger and chicken and hard boiled eggs so my dog can feel full...
Thanks
39  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / News (Recall Related) / Mercury from fish in Pet food.... on: August 12, 2007, 08:29:46 AM
Yesterday I went to the local premium pet food store and pet bakery to pick up some Timberwolf Organics Ocean Blue and Orijen Senior dog food kibble. After constantly changing my mind  and after the Innova problems I have three kibbles that I am now using. The 2 mentioned above and Wellness Core. I actually have 3 large canisters with each product  and I mix them to equal 1 and 1/2 cups a day. This is for my dog's big main meal in the morning...I try small homecooked meals at nite. I was mixing rice with Chicken or hard boiled egg or hamburger, but dropped the rice after my dog started scratching. After stopping the rice, the scratching stopped...

Now about the Mercury. While at the pet food store, there was a man there with a beautiful but skinny German Shepherd. We started talking and he said that his dog has bad allergies and his Vet gave him the Science Diet food and the allergies got worse. I told him to check out the Itchmo forums and he would learn a lot as many of us had.
He said that his dog was allergic to all poultry and rice and corn and wheat...

I suggested a single source grain free  fish protein such as TWO Ocean Blue or Orijen 6 fish. He said no because he was worried about the Mercury content may be high from the fish...He said Mercury in food can lead to poor health. The pet store lady suggested he use the Evo Red Meat and he bought it.

Then last nite on T V,  I saw a promo for a CNN program on this coming Monday about all the Mercury that is found in our fish and the bad health ramifications.
It made me wonder that if the fish supply is high in Mercury, the fisheries probably sell the fish with the highest Mercury content to the pet food manufacturers rather than the human chain.

Do you feel there is a worry in feeding pet foods (wet or dry) containing fish and Mercury concerns.

Thanks

Does Orijen use a vitamin pre mix    and do they use the type of meat process that we saw in the Innova thread with sutures etc ?...Hope not !!

Does anyone know which brands use the vitamin pre-mixes HuhHuhHuh?

Do all the vitamin pre-mixes come from China ??

Wouldn't it be equally important to check the vitamin pre-mixes for problems ?
Thanks

My heart goes out to all of you.....

In the last 25 years, I have lost many of the best friends anyone can have...

Rudy, Ralph, Rocco, and Otis were my best dog friends..
Frisky and Fluffy were my best cat friends...
When they had passed, it was always a devastating event..
They are all burried in my yard...
7 years ago I adopted Wilbur , a lab retreiver mix....I swear he at times has  the personalites of all the ones that had gone on before him...

Much of what keeps me going is the belief that I will see all of them again...
I could just hug them all forever !!!

I read last week how we have spent over 26 million dollars to test MICE to see which mice (the right handed mice or the left handed mice) have quicker reflexes....

I know 26 million in the broad scope is not enough to protect our food supply, but add on all the other wasted spending money and we could have an agency more prepared possibly to protect and test the food supply...Independently

Just a thought.....I'm not the sharpest tac in the box, but any dummy can see all the wasted spending....

As someone said earlier, maybe it's too late !!!!!

We give Billions of dollars to countries around the world, and we can't invest to protect the food supply Huh? Crazy !

This is a post by CodyBear to a recent thread...
I believe it sums up all the BS and frustration and pain we have all felt in our hearts..
I started a new thread with CodyBear's post so hopefully more will read it...

It's a shame that this is the way it is........
HOW OR WHEN WILL IT BE FIXED?Huh?

The following is the post by CodyBear::::::

Although not quite following the flow of this thread, it's as good a place to speak  my mind about this as any other place...I, too, am so very tired and burned out of this pet food business.  I can not, and will not, trust the pet food industry ever again for the following reasons:

1.  The FDA has no power to force a recall or even tell the public about a potential problem, it is all "voluntary" by the manufacturer.
2.  The FDA is incapable of preventing problems, or even policing known problems.
3.  The corporations "police" themselves; but they will not ever insure quality when motivated by greed, profit margins, the NY Stock Exchange, public image.
4.  The corporations refuse to be transparent or forthcoming with their ingredients under the blanket of "proprietary secrets" which allows anything and everything to be put into "food" for animals (and people, I might add).
5.  Pet nutrition studies have been conducted solely by the corporations who profit from feeding them.

This will continue to be a recipe for more disasters.  Salmonella, botulism, melamine, cyanuric acids, plastic pieces, acetaminophen, and God only know what else has been in the pet food since I've been watching for only the last THREE MONTHS!

CodyBear gets homemade.  Homemade everything, including his biscuits.  People can think I'm nuts, people can think I'm going overboard, people can think I'm paranoid, but I REFUSE to bury another animal because of these corporations and the FDA/USDA bulls***!
