I know there are pros and cons to Raw, then I saw this web site below....Do I dare take a chance with my best friends health HuhHuh?? I have heard so much good about Raw, but there is much bad written also....as in this web site...

Kaffe and all

I will be getting the Bravo next  for the low Iodine levels as you stated..This is because they don't add kelp powder...
The Barf World patties ( 24 lbs.) that I just bought have 11.7 mg/kg Iodine dry matter basis as per their president Rob Mueller. I called him last week to find out the Iodine content...He said that his nutritionist did not feel this was high... He will check further and get back to me as I told him that I thought this amount was very high...

Natures Variety and Primal raw frozen also add Kelp powder as do many other companies..Bravo I found out does not....

I have 48 patties ( 24 lbs. ) of the Barf World...I will use only 2 pounds a week as I am uncomfortable with the Iodine content...

Thanks to all for caring..

So are the Barf World and Bravo raw frozen foods not as good  since they are ground meat too ??

I just put 24 pounds of Barf World frozen patties in my freezer this morning. They were delivered frozen in dry ice by Fed Ex.. I hope I did OK..

Thanks
4  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Making Your Own Pet Food And Home Remedies / Raw Ground Turkey on: January 24, 2008, 07:19:21 AM
My local supermarket carries ground turkey..Can I give this Raw to my dog with some pureed carrots and green beans as a meal...

I currently use Barf World patties and Honest Kitchen Embark...
I'm new to this raw thing, but if I can give a few meals a week with the ground turkey that would really be nice, but only if it is safe,,,
Thanks

PS.... The Barf World patties have 11.7 mg/kg of Iodine based on a dry matter basis....is this too much Iodine ?

Hi all;

I am currently feeding 1/2 Honest Kitchen Embark and 1/2 home cooked...

I have been reading about Raw quite a bit and am willing to take the plunge, but only with the packaged Raw for now....

The 4 varieties above are all available at a pet food store about 15 miles from my house....
I would like to feed these Frozen Raw foods 1/2 the time and Honest Kithchen Embark 1/2 the time....

I also add 1 or 2 hardboiled eggs per week and canned Sockeye Salmon and canned Sardines a couple times per week...

Any info on the above Raw food producers is greatly appreciated..
Thanks
Wilbur

Thanks kaffe,
that's my problem, I want to reduce the salt, but not wash away the nutrients which is why I am feeding the fish in the first place.....
Is 230 mg. of salt per serving way too much?
Thanks
10  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Making Your Own Pet Food And Home Remedies / Reducing salt content of canned fish on: December 11, 2007, 12:12:51 PM
I give my dog 1/2 can of salmon 2 nites per week....The entire can contains 460 mg. of sodium,,so 230 mg. per meal...My dog is 60 lbs.
I usually drain the liquid from the can and then add water and drain again...How much sodium, if any, do I eliminate with the addition of water and then draining....

I can not get (no salt added) salmon in my area and to order on line is a fortune....
Thank You

Hi all :
I was just wondering as we learn more everyday, (regarding the feeding of our pets) how much or how many times or switches have you made since the recalls of last Spring??

My feeding has evolved:::::

Since March when all the problems started with the recalls I have evolved from

Blue Buffalo lamb and rice to
Innova to
Evangers canned to
TWO Ocean Blue to
Orijen and now
to The Honest Kitchen and home cooked.... 1/2 meals just Honest Kitchen and 1/2 home cooked...

Just like many of you I've spent tens of hours researching and reading and educating myself with different forums and web sites....

I will now ( hopefully ) not have as much anxiety about feeding my dog as I do not feel that I can do any better than I now do.....

I want my buddy to live as long as possible and as healthy as possible as I love him so much....
DON'T WE ALL WISH THIS FOR OUR BUDDIES?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh
Best Wishes

I have been giving my dog, Wilbur, canned Sockeye Salmon 2 nites per week....The sodium content per serving is 230 mg...............

I was worried about the high Sodium amount and I searched and found this site that sells no salt added Alaskan Wild Sockeye Salmon...Fresh or Canned...
The canned has only 40 mg. of sodium per serving,,,,I'm happy I found it....hope it helps some of you too....
