1  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Cat Food Experiences By Brand / Re: Wellness Canned on: November 02, 2008, 09:06:40 PM
I have thought about asking them if they can order the big cans for me, but I am hesitant because I've heard how different the consistency can be between the bigger cans and the 5.5oz ones I'm using and I'm afraid my cats would then refuse to eat it.  Undecided

Do you think there's much difference between the two sizes in consistency of the food?

Friday I visited the pet store I usually by my cases of 5.5oz cans from and found out they have raised the prices!  Shocked

I used to pay $26.99 for a case and now it's $30.75 !!! I use 4 cans a day and keep wondering how long I'll be able to afford this.

The guy at the pet store said the Wellness rep told him all their prices went up. He said a bag of dry dog food is now $50.00!

Has anyone else noticed a rise in the price you pay for your Wellness?

How does this compare in price to the regular canned Wellness?

I wonder what the actual carb content is since it has potatoes.
Anyone familiar with Janet & Binky's food charts that list the percentages of Protein, Fat, Carbs, etc.

http://www.geocities.com/jmpeerson/CanFoodNew.html

I wonder if she would add this to her charts.

Sounds like a good food though and I would probably let my cats try it.

Don't know what's going on but all of a sudden all 5 cats have begun to snub the Wellness they used to love.
The latest flavor was Chicken & Herring - Best By 15 Apr 11 - 7WCHS4 21:20
Had to return over a dozen cans because they would take a few licks and walk away.
Some days they will eat the Turkey some days not. Turkey & Salmon used to be a favorite, but not anymore.  Undecided
It's getting harder everyday to know what to feed them. I have a diabetic so it's important that he eats something low carb.

The pet store I frequent has recently added this to their line of cat foods and I have been considering trying the canned formulas, but wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with this food company.

7  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Cat Food Experiences By Brand / Re: Wellness Pure Delights Jerky Treats for Cats on: September 11, 2008, 02:18:24 PM
I bought a package of the Turkey & Salmon and for the most part the cats liked them, but seemed to have a hard time eating them and one even seemed to kind of choke a bit.

So I took the treats out to the garage cats and now before I give them one I kind of bend it in half and they seem to be able to get it in their mouth better.

I think if these were a different shape, they might be easier for the cats to eat.
8  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Cat Food Experiences By Brand / Brandon Farms on: August 22, 2008, 09:30:43 AM
I couldn't find any thing on this food here through search, so I hope I'm not repeating a topic.

Has anyone fed Brandon Farms foods, I'm especially interested in the canned, consistency, smell, texture.

It's sold at Kroger here and I thought maybe I could use it as a back up, but I'm really leery of trying out new foods without at least having heard a few opinions from others.

This situation is still on going and I'm fearing for this cat.
Is there anyone near this area that could try to help?
It sounds like a very unstable environment for this poor cat and she deserves better care.

The owner is saying there are no vets or shelters in her area that will help spay or care for this cat.
I find that hard to believe, but then I'm not in that area to know for sure.

Just reading some of this girls posts really stresses me, I can only imagine what the poor cat is going trough.

With my indoor cats I go through about 3 to 4 5.5oz cans of Wellness a day. One of these cats weighs
24 lbs. so he requires a bit more.
I split one can a day between the two garage cats. They also get kibble for over night.

1) How much do your cats eat at a time?
I feed my cats several times throughout the day when I am home and able to do it. I usually give a bit less than ΒΌ of 5.5oz can to each cat. I have one gobbler that will wolf down his own, then sit and wait for one of the other to even slightly step back from their bowl and he is right in there eating theirs too.  Roll Eyes  The other two are nibblers and like to leave some for later, but unless I get their bowls picked up right away, it gets wolfed.
It's really hard when I have to be gone for extended time on some days. I leave extra food down, but I know the gobbler eats it all before the others get much of it.

2) Do they eat more during the nite than during the day?
I have heard that cats generally do eat more during the night, but I just give mine the usual amount before I go to bed and that's all they get until morning....or until one of them wakes me up at 4 am for "breakfast".  Angry

3) Do you notice they eat less in hot weather (which may explain the nite hunger when it is cooler?)
Yes I think it does affect their appetite, especially my garage cats that aren't in the air conditioning.

4) Do they eat pate, shreds, ground (in canned food)
Mine all prefer pate type foods. The latest case of Wellness I bought seemed very smooth and they have been gobbling that up even more than normal.

5) Kibble
For the most part I don't feed kibble because of my diabetic (the wolfer), but as a treat sometimes I will give each about a teaspoon full. I don't like the tiny pellet type kibble as it seems to choke them and cause vomiting more often. That's why I quit buying Core. I like the shape of California Natural Herring & Sweet Potato. It's like a triangle shape and they have never "tossed" this food yet.

I have 3 indoor cats and 2 indoor/outdoor garage cats.

WET:
Wellness grain-free canned in what they usually get
have also tried California Natural Salmon & Sweet Potato because it's grain-free also.

Everyone likes these and feeding Wellness has put my diabetic cat in remission.

DRY:
The indoor cats don't get dry because the diabetic is a dry food junkie and I don't
want to go down that road again.
I have given them, on very rare occasions, about a teaspoon of Wellness Core, but now
that they've changed the kibble shape, I won't be buying it anymore.

The garage cats get a half cup of dry for overnight and they love the Purina Naturals I gave them as strays.  Roll Eyes
I have been mixing some premium food in with it and they don't seem to mind.

I have used:
California Natural Herring & Sweet Potato
Wellness Core (no more)
EVO (I may try to transition to this)

TREATS:
Zukes Hip Action
VitaKitty Chicken Breast
I have used Temptations....as a temptation, lol
and I recently bought the new Wellness Pure Delights.

I also want to get some freeze dried chicken breast treats to try.

We're about half way through a case of 5.5oz Wellness Turkey & Salmon (it only takes 4 days  Roll Eyes )
and the cats are gobbling it up!
I has a different consistency than before, it's really smooth and, almost creamy, unlike the other pate foods that have a ground texture to them and much stiffer. But the cats are loving this for whatever reason.

I should see if my pet store can get me the 12oz (?) cans, but I've heard there is a big difference in can sizes and I'd worry they wouldn't like it.
13  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Cat Food Experiences By Brand / Re: California Natural Only on: July 29, 2008, 10:50:05 PM
I recently purchased a case of California Natural canned Salmon & Sweet Potato.

It's a grain free food and since I have a diabetic cat, feeding grain free is important.
They usually eat Wellness grain free varieties, but I was looking for a little variety for them.
All of the cats love it and we have just about finished the case without any issues.

The numbers on can are:

I should add that Fred is eating Purina Naturals dry food and is on a 'diet' per vet as he is too fat and needs to lose some weight.   So a new addition to the family may sneak some of Fred's food when no one is home to watch.

Mary, your cat will be much more likely to lose weight if he is eating a wet food.
My Cocoa was very overweight (28lbs) when he was diagnosed with diabetes. I began feeding him
the grain free varieties of canned Wellness and he began losing weight without going hungry.

Purina Naturals has a lot of carbs (grains) in it, so it could still contribute to a weight problem.

So it would be good for all the cats to begin eating a diet of canned food and Wellness is an excellent choice.
