I just thought I'd post the response I received from RC Pet:

"Thank you for your e-mail and concerns about our coats.  This is something we are aware of and are taking steps to provide coats that are PVC free.  There is a great deal of research, product development etc.that needs to take place in making these changes.    Thank you again for your feedback!"

There's also Bebop USA, all products are made in Gresham, Oregon, and some of the profits benefit
unwanted/abused animals:

They make great harnesses also, I've got two of them for my dog.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and for helping me out with this.  I think it's very positive that many large box stores are phasing out products containing PVC, such as Target and Ikea.  We've just got to keep pushing other companies to do the same!

Hi everyone, this is my first post here, I read Itchmo daily and decided to join when I discovered my favorite coat maker uses a PVC lining on their new slickers.  They're called RC Pet Products and they're based in Vancouver, BC.  The slicker I'm talking about is the new Metro Slicker--please check and make sure you or someone you know doesn't have this coat!  Also, I'm asking all of you to email the company and ask them to stop using PVC, as it is a known toxin to humans and animals.  Anyone who comes into contact with this coat, babies, kids, dogs, cats, are being exposed to carcinogens.

Please take a moment to email RC Pet Products, http://www.rcpets.com/emailus.html , I've even written a letter below that you're welcome to copy and paste in your email.  One of the reasons I'm doing this is because I emailed them over a week ago addressing my concerns and no one has bothered to respond.  Thanks everyone!

Dear Susan,

I am writing to you to express my concern over your use of a PVC coating in the new Metro Slicker.  As you may not know, PVC contains a known carcinogen, vinyl chloride, as well as lead, which you must know has been linked to nerve problems in humans.  Please refer to this article for more information:

I hope you will seriously consider recalling your toxic slicker and pledging to never using PVC again.  I'm sure there are ways to go about this, as PVC and phthalate-substitutes are used all the time in Europe, where these toxins are banned by the government.  Thank you for your attention in this matter, and I hope to hear from you about what you decide to do.
