287  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Making Your Own Pet Food And Home Remedies / Re: Home-cookers and raw feeders--are you suspected of weird activities? on: April 16, 2008, 11:03:29 AM
I have a great vet who even said to try raw that she did not carry .... I have a great organic butcher who since it is for the "fur kids" gives me a big price break...

I never thought organs were weird cause grandma feed them to the fur kids raw and cooked( now I cant stomach cooking organs Shocked)

Yes friend s who DO NOT have pets or they are just a cat or dog do think it strange I spend some much time $$ and effort on my fur kids ...

Kandie ate the OLD senior formula for a while with good results she just tired of it ... The new formulas puzzle me $$$$ for what = to be low end premium... they keep adding more and more grain products
291  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Cat Food Experiences By Brand / Re: Wellness Pouches on: April 14, 2008, 09:44:55 AM
I bought some for my crew. They licked the gravy off but weren't as excited about the "meat" pieces. I do know that it is gluten-free and not made by Menu.

who is making it as last I heard MENU did make Wellness s canned food>>

I tried them and Zoey loved it and then threw up ...she only ate the gravy..
292  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Making Your Own Pet Food And Home Remedies / Re: My cats seem to be getting tired of home-cooked on: April 14, 2008, 09:39:09 AM
I try to rotate my home made girl( dog if it matters ) every 8 to 12 weeks on the meat choice...most of the time that fixes boredom right up ...i have been doing homemade for about ten yrs in different animals and it truely is trial and error for rotation
293  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Making a Difference / Re: Veterinarians and the Pet Food Industry on: April 11, 2008, 07:30:40 PM
Thank you for all your answers, I thought as much, I just wanted to show a few people this, so they would understand about some vets.  Although there are vets out there like for example Elizabeth  Hodgkins who do educate themselves on nutrition.

My vet has a Masters in companion animal nutrition so the coursework is even there just most arent wanting it  Huh
294  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Making a Difference / Re: Report Grocery Store EMPTY PET FOOD AISLE! on: April 11, 2008, 07:28:35 PM
Per www.barfdirect.com s calculator ... a 10lb cat / dog they do not differentiate species that want s to maintain current and is fully grown... 4 oz of raw is the recommendation... for 19 lb it is 7.6 oz .48 of a lb ( for slight loss 6 oz ... with just the two on just raw my bill was under 6 a week for premade that was "complete"

http://www.barfdirect.com/catalogs/store.asp?pid=173798&catid=27349 is the calc;)

Raw feeds eat way less... my cat at 5-7 oz but with CRF she needed to add wt continually... my yorkie ate 4-5 oz ... right now Ben is working up to all raw ( yippy for my $$s ) to gain wt 2 cups XXX dry and 24 oz raw ... He is 75 needing to add about 10 lbs

296  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Making Your Own Pet Food And Home Remedies / Re: Annual Wellness Evaluations - What are your results? on: April 11, 2008, 11:08:26 AM
Well mine have been itresteing the last say three yrs

KANDIE Rip May 21 2007 - went from later stage to CRF to early stage two crf numbers on a 50/50 -75/25 raw/ canned diet ... her passing was quick and she never qualified for reg fluids ... she gained nearly 3 lbs of the 5 she lost from crf ... Her meds were herbs and whole food supplements .... at the time of her death the ER clinic thought she was about 12 she was just shy of 19

Gigi - problem child for all 7 yrs I have had her ...She was diagnoised with atypical Cushings officially may 28 2007 ... she was on a raw diet with some grain containing kibble ... I added supplements and thing s got worse ... well thru research and MOMS gut we went back to homemade /.// she get some grain free kibble and lots of varying degrees of cooked meat and redid the supplement s... WELL she has a much less swelled liver , clear eyes with less goop , almost no itching and the energy of a two yr old.. she is 12

Ben - Recently adopted .... took him off all grains for his epilepsy and added herbs and accupucture ... outside he is more alert less hyperactive and more responsive ... goes next week for check up ... he is eating 50 grain free dry and raw with supplements and the dreaded pheno

Zoey - has the best coat vet has seen ... well she eats one grain free and one grain containing dry with a taste of raw and homemade as she permits... she is only 4 so there is hope

300  General Pet Information / Misc/Other Pet Discussions / Re: Nutro & Hill's are still at odds over advertising claims on: April 09, 2008, 04:55:11 PM
Sure bit into that moment of hope, didn't I? Should have known
that Big Business got the regulatory authority jerked.

Clever girl, Offy. May be possible to complain via FTC about the
six month free food trials that pet manufacturers are claiming by
not updating ingredients on labels. That certainly seems like a
deceptive practice, not to notify consumers when the feeding
trials begin.

I totally agree... it used to be just grocery that did that now it is ALMOST every manufacturer yet if you look up the actual LAWS that is the PET food companies DO NOT have 6 months to change bags without some kind of notification
