AlekO,  we have recently switched our Sophers over to Taste of the Wild grain-free dry and she seems to be doing very well on it so far, she actually seems to really like it.

JustMe,  I didnt think it was such a slow news day, Carol had found that really good Consumer Affair article about Nutro showing a picture of a piece of string or some other unidentified object coming out of a piece of dry kibble.  We had tried to get it going before some of the food issues were brought up but that thread just didnt get lots of hits for some reason.  Undecided

Oh good Meowsalot, Im glad you are having Peanut see a Dr!  Please let us know the outcome of that?  Prayers for you and Peanut.  Im not real good at deciphering lab work but lots of people here are and Im sure they will help out with that.

You know, I actually had looked at Felines Pride before all of this but then learned that our Sophers is probably not a good candidate for that type of feeding.  So it has nothing to do with the food.  I might suggest a way to advertise one's food here would  be to say something like I feed -------, for whatever the reasons that is and because I had a cat who I feel was killed by eating kibble.  It really helped a different cat, you might want to try it.  Something to that effect and leave out the statements that imply you are poisoning your cat, if you dont feed it you dont care for your cats health, etc.  I just think there's a more consumer friendly way of selling ones food.  Im sure everyone is tired of my thoughts on this and I will give it a rest, Im aware I dont need to keep repeating my thoughts and make myself a nuisance.  I am  very glad that some people have had good success with Felines Pride, I just think we still have an obligation to help pet food become safer for those who dont feed this food for whatever reasons they have.  Folks can cheer now, Im done with voicing my concerns and thanks for hearing me out.   Wink

Marimanu,  you have posted about raw feeding in lots of places.  You cant force people to feed the way you think their pets should be fed, saying it over and over doesnt solve anything and implying there is rampant confusion doesnt help matters.  When does it cross the line and become more advertising then helping?  Its very clear you have a passion for raw feeding  and I think thats fine, but it doesnt help your cause by trying to discredit those that dont concur with your feelings.  Im sorry you lost your pet, and I think that raw can be a good thing if done correctly but there are other choices out there also.  Please lets not make this site a raw vs commercial arena.  Commercial food will never go away, its reality, so lets fight to make it safer, OK?

MariManu, thank you for stepping forward with this information.  I might just add that Im not sure it was people's place to e:mail you to ask, it might have been simpler and avoided alot of upset if you had just posted that info upfront about being a distributor for the food and let people make their own decisions on the food.  For appearance sake, it just looks questionable when info is withheld especially involving a commercial pet food company which is what Felines Pride is, even though they are a small company.     One thing that concerns me is I dont think its being made very clear that raw food may not necessarily be a good thing to feed all pets, there are some with compromised immune systems that maybe shouldnt be eating that food, I  just think its good for everyone to know that raw food is not the only way just as wet or dry is not the only way to feed a pet.   It needs to be based on an informed decision by the pet parent as to what they choose to feed and it is not a bad thing if someone chooses not to feed raw.  There will still always be a need for safer pet food as shelters and people on low budgets will not be able to order and feed this kind of food, so I think its safe to say we still need to fight for safe pet food for all pets.

And it might be hard for those folks to dispute the little piece of string coming out of the piece of kibble......the picture says it all.   Carol, Im still trying to think of more places to send that article.  If anyone can think of more places that would be great to get the word out....

Maybe thats why I cant get Sophers to eat either the chicken or turkey?  So far she has stuck her paw in the dish, flung it all over the kitchen and done such a dramatic drama queen episode of covering the food up that she slid the whole bowl over to the edge of the stairs and knocked it down, bump, bump, bump, splat.   Roll Eyes   We're just starting out with it so its a new food for her and hard to tell whether she just plain doesnt like it or if there's more to the story..... Undecided  So far things dont bode well.......I'll go compare the dates you posted.  Peg was yours turkey and or chicken too?

Offy, do you think they will submit it to FDA? If not we certainly can.  And we can submit it to the Pet Food Industry magazine too if they dont do anything with it.  Im sure this is something that Duane will have a hard time countering, with all of his constant talk of how safe pet food is, what will he do now?

Also is Peanut urinating and have normal bowel movements?

lol Kaffers, Ms. Sophers resembles that remark!   Roll Eyes  She's only 11 months old (and 28 days to be exact)but she must have had some training from some experts before she came to us.
1754  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Your Problems with Pet Food / Re: A Fancy Feast from hell on: April 17, 2008, 06:04:29 PM
Butter came running when i opened the can but he just came for a sniff then left. kitty was meowing at my feet for some but never jumped on the counter because the kittens were there. peanut isnt a big wet food eater but she saw her sister eat some so she poked her head in the bowl with her , I dont have any plants at all, and like i said before my cabinets are childproof and they never go outside.

Peanut is walking around and chasing stuff but still feels drunk in my hands.
My husband just pointed out that her bottom was wet and he looked at the spot by the window were she was sitting and it shows that she pee'ed herself....I Cant afford another ER visit
Could this be a UTI?Huh

Meowsalot, I just worry that if Peanut "feels drunk in your hands" that those are the same symptoms Jellie was displaying and with Jellie dying, you cant take that risk with Peanut too.  I hope you can get Peanut into a vet very very soon.  Please keep us posted.   Undecided   Also, is Peanut eating OK?  Im very worried.

We really need to bombard FDA with comments before that upcoming meeting in May.  I wish I could attend but if anyone can, heres the info:

The Federal Register Notice of Meeting (FR NOM) for the FDAAA Public Meeting has not published yet.  The published update was based on it publishing the same day but as we all know, there are bound to be delays just when we really don't need one.  I am hoping the notice will publish today (fingers crossed).

Basically I can tell you that there will be a public meeting on May 13 at the Holiday Inn in Gaithersburg, MD.  The time is tentatively set for 9:00 to 4:30.  This is an information-seeking meeting.  The FR notice will have a list of questions that we (CVM) would like the public to address. You will be able to register in advance to speak or just to attend if that is your preference.

Please keep an eye on the CVM Web Page for the notice of meeting.

Sorry for the delay.
