I believe Trudy is referring to Blue Buffalo "Wilderness" cat food. It is a brand new line of food they have put out. It is comparable to Evo or Core. I saw it at Petsmart the other day and was intrigued by it. It has something like a 45% protein level. I may try it as I used to feed my cats Blue Buffalo and they really liked it. This new high protein formula has me interested again, as well as their new organic line of dry food. I wanted to get more info about it unfortunately it appears they haven't updated their website in a long time and there is nothing on the Blue Buffalo site about it.

I am a pet sitter and have checked nearly all the different foods I feed to the pets I take care of. Almost every brand has those "hair" like things in them. I am guessing the previous poster is right in that it has something to do with the meat. I mean, come on, it can't all be actual hair. This includes brands such as: Solid Gold, Natural Choice, Evo, Innova, Iams, Eukanuba, Purina. The only brands I have found not to have these hair things are them are the ones that are predominantly corn. I wouldn't worry about it as being a danger to your pets.

My cats used to love the turkey. Now they don't like it so much. My one cat likes the seafood ok, and sometimes the pheasant. My other kitty won't really eat any Evangers anymore... except for the mackerel. They both go nuts for it.
I have noticed quality issues. In the turkey and pheasant there are always pieces of bone, sometimes quite large and sharp. I also found a huge chunk of fat in one can of pheasant which took up half the can! In a seafood can I found some kind of large weird unidentifiable object. Kind of looked like a lining of something... the liver maybe? It was gross. Also found a small piece of green plastic once in a can of turkey. Once my remaining cans are gone, the only flavor I'll be buying anymore is mackerel.

Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / News (Recall Related) / Sheba?

What do you think of Sheba? I know it's made by Mars, a large company, but I also know that they have their own manufacturing facilities and did not have any recalls.
So I picked up a can to try yesterday. It had 4 ingredients: water, tuna fillets, tapioca starch, guar gum. To my surprise both cats liked it. The only problem I have is that it is manufactured in Thailand. I think that's strange, but not necessarily bad as we know we can't trust something just because it's made in the US.
Anyway, it's good to be able to see exactly what I'm feeding them instead of some unidentifiable mush. Since it's not a complete diet I may just give it to them as a treat a couple times a week. Anyone else feed Sheba?

OK so here's a common sense question for everyone. Even if Natura did use euthanized animals in their food (which I find hard to believe), where would sutures come from? I mean we're mainly talking about animals euthanized at the pounds or from disease, correct? Why would these animals have sutures in them? Why would that even be the first thing you would think of? It just seems so unlikely... I mean, if I saw a piece of rope-like material in pet food the first thing I would think of would be the twine they tie together poultry legs with. Not as if that should be in the food either though!
Also, I looked at my EVO kibble today and saw what looked like white stringy pieces and hair coming off them. Yes it disturbed me, enough to change my cat's food after this bag is gone. But, have you ever eaten a piece of jerky? Try breaking it apart and looking at it. When you break up a piece of dried meat, it looks stringy and hair-like. I don't know if that's what it is, just saying it's a possibility. My cats have been happy and healthy on Natura food, but just to be on the safe side I will be switching.

For dry food only I would trust any Natura product. They make Innova, Evo, Karma, California Natural. They have their own dry food facility and from what I've heard, it's very state of the art and they have high standards. However, they use Menu for their canned, so for canned go with Merrick or Evangers. Also, Canidae for both dry and canned should be safe as well. They don't manufacture it themselves, but I know Evangers cans their wet.
