Other/Misc / Recall (Non-Pet Food) / All Irish Pork recalled
|
on: December 06, 2008, 09:51:12 PM

" ALL products produced from pigs slaughtered in Ireland were recalled last night due to a dioxins scare. Consumers were warned not to eat Irish pork and bacon as an investigation was launched into the discovery of the toxic substances. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and the government made the announcement after pork products on several farms were found to have had between 80 and 200 times more dioxins than the safety limit. The recall affects all pork produced since September 1.The recall also affects Irish exports of pork to other European countries. Britain, Germany, France and Italy all import significant quantities, while America and Korea are also buyers. The investigation will attempt to identify the processors and foods involved. It is believed contaminated feed was used at a total of 47 farms. Nine of these were pork-producing. The remaining 38 were beef farms, with one of those also producing pork products. Have a few emails to share, first I want to say I am not promoting this food by any means , nor do I mean for any one to take it negatively it is for information on product . I wrote and asked a few questions since RC has been eating a little bit of it. I asked if it was ok to share here is answer Kathy,
You may share any info I have sent to you.
Sincerely,
Scott Freeman
The first email is from a while ago in june, from lab board I read that one of the one of owners from NL had worked on nature variety formula, here is the answer: Yes, I was very much involved in creating the Nature’s Variety line but not the Instinct. I am apposed to feeding dogs or cats tapioca. In my opinion it contains too much sugar Sincerely,
Scott Freeman
The next emails are from asking about new facility and darker color of kibble which I asked and received answer today 9/15/08
Dear Kathy,
Thanks for your email.
We had to start using two facilities to make our products due to production schedules at Crosswind that could not accommodate us at all times, plus the mill that mixes our products for Crosswind is a bovine free facility and could not do our new beef formula coming out.
The chicken you are referring to was made at Pied Piper. They do have different suppliers of some ingredients. The chicken meal they use has a specification sheet which states the product can vary in color from golden to medium brown. We are making sure their animal protein sources are hormone free and naturally preserved and meet all of our standards.
Pied is making our products with the exact formula that Crosswind has always made it. We have laboratory tested batches and the protein and fat level are accurate to our packaging and formula.
The only thing we are working on at Pied is the drying process. They have new equipment and the dryer works very well in removing the moisture from the food. So well, that a few batches have been dried below 5% moisture which makes the food more concentrate than food dried the normal level of 7% to 8% moisture. We have found if any pets experience some lose stool from the dryer product, adding a little water (which we recommend on our bag) usually in all cases corrects this.
Please let me know if I could further help you.
Sincerely,
Scott Freeman
The last question I had to do with the protein and fat % being higher on website than what is listed on the bag, here is the answer Kathy,
The bag is the guaranteed minimum as feed analysis. The website is the guaranteed dry matter basis.
Sincerely,
Scott Freeman

rc maybe the allergic reactions will clear up after stopping the feeding of this particular chicken. Do not know if this would help but since I stopped eating grains my joints do not hurt anymore so maybe its not really arthritis but a reaction to the grains in foods? Just a thought...
Sorry so long replying, the food my vet suggested RC stop eating was eagle pack, since his last visit he has not had any eagle pack. It is hard to tell if it was food related or environmental since our property does not have much sun so we have a lot of dampness . As of today RC's eyes, ears and skin are as they should be and shiny coat , he is eating home made and some NL. He has arthritis, xrays taken long ago and it had already started. But do think least amount of grain will help him with weight and hips. kathy
