I think for me it's more that I just love dairy products rather than I intenionally use them as a protein source. The protein is just kind of a side benefit to my cheese and yogurt obsession and wanting whole milk on my cereal. Or, maybe, my addiction is actually there because I need protein!
Think I'll go eat a piece of cheese.

I'm sooo envious purringfur! That crop looks wonderful, and you've got a great space to grow there. I desparately want to raise my own food this coming year but have no where to grow it. I'm in the woods in deep shade on a tiny lot with no level ground, but I'll be darned if I'm not going to try to put in some kind of veg beds. I could just try container gardening, but I'm a big garden type of grower and wouldn't be happy with a few pots of cherry tomatoes. I'm going to used downed trees too for raised beds and ring the whole area with that cheap plastic deer netting attached to the trees to keep out kids and roaming cats. I'm sure the neighbors are going to love me! Straw bale gardening has me interested, and I could use the old bales to build up the raised beds. But I need to locate a source of organic hay or straw which may be hard to do in my area: http://www.nicholsgardennursery.com/strawbales.htmhttp://www.beginner-gardening.com/straw-bale-gardening.htmlAnd I'm being careful what seed I buy because of Monsanto's buyout of Seminis, which supplies a lot of veg seeds to the seed companies: http://www.fedcoseeds.com/seeds/monsanto.htm

So you probably have a mother daughter team! Kudos to you for adopting feral rescues. They can be a challange, but your two look confident and comfortable.
Maybe my cats don't climb out because they are 9 years or older. Too much trouble I guess! Good to know energetic younger cats will go over it.
