I know several "high-end" pet foods claimed to buy only fish preserved with Naturox in the past.  I can't find that info on either website any more so wonder if they have opted for fish preserved with ethoxyquin now, which is probably cheaper.  Info on Naturox:

32  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Memorials and Support / Re: We'll meet again on: December 31, 2008, 09:07:21 AM
I'm sorry you lost your sweet kitty way too soon, Steve.  I hope you can eventually take comfort in the good memories and the knowledge you gave her some very good years after all those that were not so good.  Godspeed, dear little April angel girl.

Oh, yl, I'm so sad to hear that you lost your beautiful Hope girl way too soon.  Peace and prayers for you and Angel Hope as she runs free and healthy on the other side now.

This sounds like an interesting form of sharecropping for the busy urbanite:

"Eating locally raised food is a growing trend. But who has time to get to the farmer’s market, let alone plant a garden?

That is where Trevor Paque comes in. For a fee, Mr. Paque, who lives in San Francisco, will build an organic garden in your backyard, weed it weekly and even harvest the bounty, gently placing a box of vegetables on the back porch when he leaves.

Call them the lazy locavores — city dwellers who insist on eating food grown close to home but have no inclination to get their hands dirty. Mr. Paque is typical of a new breed of business owner serving their needs....."

35  Other/Misc / Recall (Non-Pet Food) / Re: Melamine crisis makes manufacturers extra-cautious over safety on: December 30, 2008, 08:50:21 AM
I wish there were at least a few US companies speaking out like that.  I don't think we will see that kind of caution being taken here anytime soon.

I can't get the link to work, JJ.  When I go to the main page, it wants me to subscribe.  When did Rumormill go to subscription access?  I remember being able to read there before without a subscription, so maybe I'm not accessing it right.

Here's another link if anyone else has trouble with that one:

It was bad enough getting metal shavings in tylenol capsules made here, now what will we find in them?
37  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / News (Recall Related) / Re: Problems with Orijen in Australia on: December 29, 2008, 10:06:10 PM
Thank you for the update, Katdogs!  I've been worrying and wondering about all the Australian kitties that we haven't been able to keep up with since the Cat World thread is now closed.  I'm glad that Rocky seems to be pulling out of the worst of it and is actually standing again.  Continued good thoughts and prayers to you and Rocky, and to all the affected kitties and their people.
38  Other/Misc / Off Topic (No Politics) / Re: Start the New Year with a 7 day milk detox on: December 29, 2008, 04:50:46 PM
I think for me it's more that I just love dairy products rather than I intenionally use them as a protein source.  The protein is just kind of a side benefit to my cheese and yogurt obsession and wanting whole milk on my cereal.  Or, maybe, my addiction is actually there because I need protein!

Think I'll go eat a piece of cheese.

Bailey's sounds like a good substitute!  I've tried soymilk and it turned out horrible, but they do use it at the coffee stands and people actually drink it.  Maybe I'm not using the right brand...

I'm sooo envious purringfur!  That crop looks wonderful, and you've got a great space to grow there.  I desparately want to raise my own food this coming year but have no where to grow it.  I'm in the woods in deep shade on a tiny lot with no level ground, but I'll be darned if I'm not going to try to put in some kind of veg beds.

I could just try container gardening, but I'm a big garden type of grower and wouldn't be happy with a few pots of cherry tomatoes.  I'm going to used downed trees too for raised beds and ring the whole area with that cheap plastic deer netting attached to the trees to keep out kids and roaming cats.  I'm sure the neighbors are going to love me!

Straw bale gardening has me interested, and I could use the old bales to build up the raised beds.  But I need to locate a source of organic hay or straw which may be hard to do in my area:

And I'm being careful what seed I buy because of Monsanto's buyout of Seminis, which supplies a lot of veg seeds to the seed companies:

41  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Help With My Sick Pet / Re: Please, positive vibes for Tilly the Trekdog on: December 28, 2008, 07:19:40 PM
Ah, poor sweet Tilly.  This is sad news.  I hope she still has some really good time left with her person and doesn't suffer from the cancer.
42  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Help With My Sick Pet / Re: I can't cope (long) on: December 28, 2008, 07:08:15 PM
I hope Thunder's appetite picks up again soon, NedF.  Maybe some of the tempting treats everyone is mentioning will get her started.  Is she taking in enough water to stay hydrated?  I'll keep you two in my thoughts and prayers!

Gorgeous!!  The detail is amazing.  I love the faint leaves on the side too.

So you probably have a mother daughter team!  Kudos to you for adopting feral rescues.  They can be a challange, but your two look confident and comfortable.

Maybe my cats don't climb out because they are 9 years or older.  Too much trouble I guess!  Good to know energetic younger cats will go over it.
