If a company will not tell you the source of an ingredient it may well be from China, India or Mexico or they really don't know WHERE it comes from. Beware! Many meds and food items have been recalled recently - both entirely US sourced and with ingredients from foriegn countries. Check out the FDA, USDA and recalls.gov web sites. You can have alerts sent directly to your e-mail fromsome sites. Clutters my e-mail occasionally, but there is a lot of useful info. I've also got OASIS on my "AOL favorites."

Cat treats are hard to find, and when I needed a back up for fresh turkey or chicken last year I bought a container of Cat-Man-Doo Dried Bonito Flakes from my local pet food store. Ingredients: Dried Bonita. No additives, preservatives or refrigeration required. About $5 for .05 oz. Lincoln loves them.
Please add any other "safe" treats you have found for our finiky friends.

Thanks for the link! Here's the email I sent:
Dear Dr. Aldrich,
Now is not the time to add DDGS to pet food. "Never" is the answer. And no knowledgeable person trusts the PFI since 3/07. The PFI needs to ban, not add, unnatural protein enhancing ingredients such as DDGS to achieve any level of credibility. But you have provided another reason to home cook or only buy pet food products with substantiated whole food ingredients.

Reading this thread reminded me to check the FDA OASIS refusal report for August - another sure fire appetite suppressant for those of us who crave night nibbles! Canada tried to send us 130 shipments of cucumbers with pesticide and Mexico attempted to send 290 shipments of fresh basil laced with salmonella, but the real eye opener was under "US" - two rejects attributed to Land O Lakes out of PA. Milk spray whole powder - "poisonous" and milk powder - "bacteria." Nice that they caught it at the port, but sure doesn't explain where else it went!
