18  General Pet Information / Pet News / Re: Wal-Mart is entering the pet care business on: October 31, 2008, 02:45:15 PM
This is indeed scary news on Halloween.  Especially with all the care they have taken in the past with their "Special Kitty" brand.  Like JustMe points out, the majority of people don't have a clue about pet food and will buy it where ever it's convenient and cheap.

A big thank you from me also.  Moderating is indeed a thankless task.  I respect and appreciate all the time and effort our moderators past and present have given to Itchmo.

22  Other/Misc / Off Topic (No Politics) / Re: Our Trudy had a fire on: October 29, 2008, 08:15:20 PM
I just now saw this.  What awful news.  I'm very glad that Trudy and family and animals are all OK but shocked to hear about the loss of her home.  Please let Trudy and family know that I am thinking of them.
23  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Help With My Sick Pet / Re: Lesliek's little Remy needs prayers on: October 29, 2008, 05:31:12 PM
Glad to hear Remy is eating, but it's too bad that he is still having trouble.  It sounds like you are covering all the bases at the vet.  I agree that you would probably want to avoid exploratory surgery if you can.

Good thoughts and positive energy to you and Remy.

Sassy's already running the place!  Good job, Sassy!  It sounds like Connie is going to provide a great home for her.  I liked hearing that she loves the dog!  Grin
26  Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Making Your Own Pet Food And Home Remedies / Re: Salmon oil on: October 27, 2008, 06:21:14 AM
My cats are not crazy about salmon oil or cod liver oil, but they were OK with regular fish oil.  Like Poco said, I would just use a pin to prick the capsule and squeeze the oil out on to the food.
27  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Cat Food Experiences By Brand / Re: SO organics on: October 25, 2008, 01:51:25 PM
That is where I get the mixed messages from the other 95%/100% meat products that are not a complete diet and suggest rotations.

The difference seems to be in "Broth". Is this a case where they buy "broth" which contains the premix nutrients and they don't have to list the ingredients in that?

Newmans FAQ says "Q. Are these foods 100% Complete and Balanced?
A. Yes, the foods are formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and contain the micro- and macro-nutrients needed for pet health and vitality."

But, their label shows the meat, the meat broth and minerals.

Does the SOrganic show mineral ingredients on the label?

No mineral ingredients on the label.  Just the meat, broth and I think the guaranteed analysis may have been on the label also.  The analysis is available in the link from my post above.

Good find JustMe!  Thanks for posting.  This might be a good candidate for our rotation.  I'm not thrilled about the potatoes either but I guess it's better than corn, wheat or soy.

Good thoughts for Houdini's safe returm.
30  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Cat Food Experiences By Brand / Re: Newman's Own on: October 25, 2008, 06:03:29 AM
Canned Newman's Own has been part of our rotation for several months.  My cats eat the formulas without vegetables, chicken & brown rice, turkey, chicken and salmon.  They like it fine but it is definitely not their favorite food.  I can only feed it to them about once or twice a week because they seem to get tired of it.  They went through a period where they refused it completely, but that seems to be over now.  No problems other than the period of refusal.
