"Last week, a component that should have been on hold due to positive testing results was inadvertently shipped . . . "

Opps!  Where was the inspector, and the QA Supervisor, and the QC Manager, and the Director of Operations?  On coffee break?

Makes you wonder what's suppose to happen to the salmonella contaminated ingredient.

There are all manner of "mitigation strategies" used by PF companies.  Does it get diluted, or treated with some toxic chemical (hummm?) so that it can enter the food supply?

I bet they don't just throw it away.

=^..^=

I bet they don't throw it away either.  Probably send it as food for pigs or cows and just continue the circle of contaminated food.

Sending best wishes that Kaffe is feeling better and all the test results are good and point to an easily resolvable cause.
18  General Pet Information / Pet News / Re: The mold detective dog on: August 10, 2008, 01:36:47 PM
I wondered too if inhaling the mold was a problem for dogs.  My mom keeps saying my dog needs to work for ATF or DEA.  Maybe I should just train her to find liver or tripe treats and stay away from the mold and other things that could get me arrested  Wink

OMG, Klondike.  My mom's condo building had water damage and they said all the mold had been removed but everytime my dog walked in the condo she sneezed.  Then we found more mold.  We made jokes that she could be a mold detection dog.  But there is such a thing!
20  Other/Misc / Recall (Non-Pet Food) / Re: California firm recalls beef due to E. coli on: August 09, 2008, 07:34:00 PM
Which would be different than this recall.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/942305/whole_foods_beef_recall_may_involve.html
Whole Foods announced the beef recall on its website, noting that the tainted beef comes from Coleman Natural Beef and was processed at Nebraska Beef processing facility. Coleman beef was the subject of a previous United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recall for E. coli contamination.

24  Itchmo News and Announcements / Suggestions/Help / Re: There is something strange going on here. on: August 06, 2008, 07:03:11 PM
That's just too funny.  What, is the Puget Sound area the only place with bikini baristas?  I could probably hit 3 of them just driving from my house into Seattle.  (and 2 dozen Starbucks and another dozen independents)
And I vote for a scrolling "Safe pet food now" too.

Emergency operating permit notice still there, August 6, 2008. Apparently not
working in terms of preventing botulism in LAC canning based on the post on
the previous page. I wonder if a contact could be made to report a complaint
to the FDA? The FDA state by state field office report numbers are there, too.

3cat, I'm not a member there, just stumbled across it.  But I'll think about posting your suggestion to contact the FDA.  I called Weruva recently about some of their canned in the US food.  She "couldn't" tell me where it was canned but would tell me it wasn't at Evangers, he he.
And I still don't see anything on the Evanger's site about the emergency permit.  I'd feel better about them if they would at least leave it posted.
26  General Pet Information / Misc/Other Pet Discussions / Re: World's Smallest Snake - Does being small make it cute? on: August 06, 2008, 01:59:06 AM
Love the stories about the snakes.  We bred my female corn snake may years ago and incubated the eggs and watched them hatch.  They came out about the size of pencils.  Very cute.  And ready to eat!  They kept trying to bite you but were too small to break the skin.

Morphs from a possible problem with canned Evangers to canned Canidae made by Evangers.

Quote:
I just found out from my friend who works as a veterinary technician that 2 dogs came into her office near death after eating Evanger’s canned dog food. It was touch and go for awhile, but they’re going to be OK. They are awaiting test results from samples sent to the lab but it looks like the food was contaminated by botulism. I researched Evangers online and they have been under question by the FDA since April. So, please be careful and if you have this food at home, throw it away!

Wanted to follow-up on the Canidae C&R cans. I opened one of the cans and the smell was so bad that I immediately threw it out. I opened another can and the same awful smell. Obviously I threw away the cans. I called Canidae and they said their canned food was still being made a Evangers. There is also a post on the GSD board regarding Canidae C&R cans with a terrible smell. The poster called Canidae as did I however all Canidae would say is they they would send coupons.
However, no more Canidae for me, ever.

Thanks, kaffe, I appreciate your opinion.  Maybe it's time to get the tartar back under control with a fresh bottle of Petzlife and then switch to Biotene for maintenance.  (The Biotene ingredients sound similar to the Wysong's ingredients.)

Hey, Klondike, did you feel the earthquake we just had?  I didn't.  I was reading this thread when they announced it on the news.  Ha, ha.
