So sorry Off, thought you went bye bye.
I hope Santa bring puter asap.
And when my home was broken in - the first thought went to my cats also (strange, they can steal everything else, but furbabies come first).
Baby Girl is the only survivor from that time.
I'm glad your kitties are okay (and understand that wonderful hug with Ling).
3cat right, take care of yourself!! Its the best you can do right now.

I live in apartment, so no way can raise my own food. I'm just at mercy of the industry right now - and its lookin a little scary.
Not true. I live in apt in Brooklyn and I am NOT at the mercy of the industry. As a matter of fact, I have outright rejected them. I control my food 100%, not them. Starting point: www.localharvest.org If you just replace all your produce from store bought to CSA/farmers market, you are well on your way to food independence and non-support of the industry. You should also be able to replace your dairy, eggs and meat in the same manner. And you do not need to spend hours in the kitchen cooking from scratch. There are PLENTY of good simple recipes that take no time at all and give you a world of variety. I rarely repeat a meal during harvest season. Can't go there (no transpo). Have looked it up. But my stores do carry some local goods, and have researched what is TRULY organic (hence, why its much more expensive). However, there are a lot more fruits and veggies in my life, and a lot less Ice Cream.

Hello Cato:
Champion did not know our food would be irradiated when it arrived in Australia, we found out after it was done. We had no control of the levels of irradiation applied to our product. When we did find out we made the assumption that the company(s) hired by the Australian government would know the affects (if any) of the irradiation process on the products that it was being applied too. We were not consulted prior too or told the level of irradiation that had been applied.
Clark..I am confused...Michelle from your company is posting now at Catworld forum--and says the company did know of the irradiation.. http://www.cat-world.com.au/forums/index.php?showtopic=87540&st=240#Ruh Roh JustMe, I'm only feeding 2 brands, so I will be calling tomorrow and checking this out. Perusing the Melamine thread too - thank goodness went Organic on the shopping (much more expensive though). However, I kinda thought about the carry over into milk when they first brought the feeding up. I live in apartment, so no way can raise my own food. I'm just at mercy of the industry right now - and its lookin a little scary. P.S. - throught about the eggs too.

Sandi, I am thinking that the dry is not cooked at the same temperature level as the canned foods. Pretty high temps are required for proper canning, which then makes the canned food impervious, one would hope to all outside contaminants.
However, Evangers ran into trouble with their cooking process and Pet Food Canning. This has me terribly worried.

My take on the inferior kibbles.
Jimmy has developed asthma like symptoms. Wet food does a world of good. Of course, I have parented kitties prior to the three I have. All died from unnatural causes, all fed primarily cheap kibble (since I didn't know any better).
Now, the quality of many kibbles have deteriorated since they first appeared, were bought out, etc (Iams comes to mind).
However, Baby Girl is about 15. She had a bought with blood in urine. Adjusting her diet slightly completely cured her WITHOUT vet care (it was kidney stones). She is slightly arthritic, but not about to kick the bucket tomorrow. Now - I don't know how she would be if she was still on cheap kibble (which the brand isn't even sold anymore).
Vets have noted the signs of malnutrition, starting with a not so smooth coat, etc. Jimmy had short, sharp, scratchy fur - which I thought was normal for him. That changed with a premium diet, and 50% or more quality wet in diet.
Siberia had no hair on his stomach. He also vomited about twice a week (kibble or low quality wet). He now vomits maybe twice a month, and there is hair all over his body (of course, I didn't know anything was wrong).
After Jimmy had a shot to help with his coughing - they warned he may drink a lot more and pee more. I said I doubt it, he never drinks any water (since his diet is primarily wet, and I add hot water to the food). He did pee more, but never drank more.
It is imperative I keep these guys on wet food, as much as possible.

Can't - we go shopping Friday, she's in school studying, no other time.
I really think she needs this because new hubby is so cons., he won't go for anything along these lines. Beneful was fine for him.
They lost 2 dogs the same month (Sept. 08) that they got married, her Lucy died while they were still in Hawaii, from Acute Kidney Failure. Of course, they had some food she couldn't remember the names of, and they were feeding them people food.
They now have a new dog - whom pees and poops on the floor. I think we need to attack this head on. (Trust me - just a little googling, and some threads in the forums will do - won't get into the complexities of GMO's etc. Made in USA, no chinese, simple food - should suffice).
I only really apply my knowledge to cats, and SHE requested we do this. So must comply.

Today at Thanksgiving - sis wants me to pull all this info up (she doesn't believe me) - starting from China and Trader Joes (where she shops), to all the recalls (she didn't know about McDonalds - note, they are raising the price of the double cheeseburger - guess why?, Pizza Hut, Walmart, etc. pulls). She has serious denial here.
I told her she won't have time to cook if I pull all this infor up.
