OF - I find giving Kaffe weak camomille tea just before eating settles his tummy quite nicely. It is very safe and benign and I introduced it to Kaffe slowly - no more than 5mls via oral syringe at a time and then gradually giving more. He actually likes the mild taste. I also give it when I see him smacking his lips signalling nausea. It realy helps him, enabling me to give ranitidine anti-acid only once a day at night.

Kaffe, what's the strength on the over-the-couter Zantac pill that you're giving 1/8th of? I have one cat that might not like the Pepcid AC. So I'd like to give the Zantac a try.
he he he The usual dose is 1/8th of a 75mg ranitidin pill - yes, 1/8th !!! It is th very devil to cut the brand-name Zantac into 8 parts, but most generic over-th-counter 75mg ranitidine are round and easier to cut up. What I do is just cut the round pilss into 4 parts and when ready to give a dose, I cut 1/4 into two. It is so tiny that I can usually crush it and mix in about 3ml water and squirt into Kaffe's mouth directly.

I am soooo late to this thread, but may I say that I am very happy to hear that Davey went through his dental realy well ---- phew...
With freeT4 and T4 on borderline high, it is alwaysbest to wait a month or so and retest... sometimes, the lab result is erroneous - Antech admits that they have erroneous T4 reads more often than they like.

Good to hear Kaffe is settling down some, and revving up some! Walkies on leash and harness are a good idea. A fence escape-proof idea - there are netting and bracket sets you can order for fairly high prices that you put along the top of the fence to keep them from climbing over. I recreated the idea myself using plastic hardware cloth which is easy to cut and black so blends in well. Bird netting would work too. I just put mine horizontally and it seemed to work for this group. Cato is young and agile so he might be more determined. Most people put them on wood fences, but I put mine on the wire fence and it works there too. Here's a pic of one company's product: http://www.catfencein.com/brochure3.phpI've seen these, Petslave! They're awesome! I don't know if I can use them though becuase parts of the fencing here is concrete

kaffe - Can you have a large enclosure with a top in your yard so that Cato can't escape? I've always had strictly indoor kitties, but if I were to ever allow outside time, this is what I would use. A neighbor has one and it is complete with a tunnel that goes right through a window in the house that has like a "cat door" so that cats can go in and out. The whole thing is constructed of a heavy duty wire and is very large (maybe like 10 or 12 foot square). I also had a neighbor who would put her cat out on a long leash in the yard, but no long enough to allow for getting too near the fence or into any other dangerous areas. Hope you find the perfect solution so that Cato does not have any unwanted adventures in your new home! The enclosure I have for the cats actually has TWO "roofs" or top coverings! Cato found a break in one of the bottom links where it meets the ground (these can come undone during dismantling and re-assembly). I've since fixed that. I had to go through the entire structure to check where a very determined cat could squeeze himself through and wired the places where it might just be possible. And thids particular enclosure is quite large: 13ft long X 7ft wide X 6ft high. They have a 3-tier perch shelf, a tunnel, a chair, a litter box, a water bowl, an open cat carrier to hide in, lots of plastic decorative plants and flowers for camouflage, natural grass and heaps of blankies. The cats are there only for a few hours in the evenings and early mornings in this hot weather. They sleep with me.

OF - I am way sooo late coming to this, but I so hope KD feels better soon! The CRF list members use Pepcid 10mg (plain famotidine) for their kitties and by what I read, most give 1/4 tablet once or twice a day at least 30 minutes before a meal. Most give the pepcid late late at night apparently to prevent early morning vomiting. I am doing that with Kaffe - 1/4 tab at midnight - somtimes it works, sometimes not. The timing o f the dose is of the essence apparently and late late at night or early early morning seems to be the time to give it in order to prevent over-production of tummy acids. Oh, about kitty tum-tum aches: I found that Kaffe a hot water bottle works with Kaffe.

My kitties and I thank you all again for such kind thoughts and prayers. Cato is taking all the newness in stride - seems to even be a mite excited by all the new scents ans sights. I am trying to establish a routine for them, similar to that which they had in the old place. I also think I have Kaffe stabilized - well, at the least, he doesn't seem to be getting any worse. He tries to eat a little on his own in the wee hours of the morning, but not nearly enough. So, I am assist-feeding him since he needs to pack in those calories! But he seems to be getting the hang of it, even the SubQ's (this was the regimen I was terrified of, but Kaffe actually seems to like it ). He and Cato explore the back yard garden early in the mornings and late late afternoon or early evening. Today, Kaffe actually rolled on the dirt by the kitchen lemon tree and it warmed my heart to see him do that. It means he wants to take on the scent of his new surroundings. It can also mean he is happy. But he is eyeing the front fence and I know it will just be a matter of time before he escapes my vigilance and jumps it. So I will be proactive and take him for a walk up front on his leash so he'll know what's out there. Cats - ever curious, you know.
