Actually, I had been feeding him Wellness canned food (which he likes) and Innova (which he tolerates), so he is used to "kitty health food," but both lines were made by Menu so I decided to try the Evangers since at least they make their own. I would go back to feeding him the Wellness - but despite the assurances on their website, I cannot bring myself to feed him anything manufactured by Menu as I have no confidence that it has changed its practice of throwing whatever is handy into any batch of pet food, no matter what ingredients are called for by the company they are manufacturing for. I really hope those companies are suing the pants off Menu.

Well, that explanation matches what I was told by the woman I talked to at Evangers - I imagine it was the same lady you talked to, though my experience was that *I* was the one who could not get a word in edgewise during the conversation So the rusty looking spots must be from the hard water, and if the food is canned & sealed while the cans are still hot, that might explain the numerous small dents in every can (the cooling of the can would cause it to contract?). Unfortunately, my kitty liked the first can but has refused to touch it since.

I ordered the organic braised chicken cat food. The cans arrived still in the shrinkwrap, so I doubt the dents are a UPS problem. Indeed, the dents don't appear to be from rough handling, rather, they are small indentations in the side of the cans, 2 - 4 on each can. The "rustiness" is little brownish spots around the top and bottom edges of all the cans - I am guessing the can coating they use may not have adhered perfectly and the spots are just a bit of oxidation. I agree with the previous poster that this may all be due to Evangers being a smaller canning facility without the mega-equipment used by the likes of Menu, and if that's the case I wouldn't be too bothered by it. I was just surprised to open the box and find a case of relatively crummy-looking cans. All that being said, I crossed my fingers last night and fed kitty a spoonful of the food - he seemed to like it and appears to be okay so far today (no upset tummy or other bad reaction). I probably won't ask for a refund because I wouldn't feel good about accepting a refund without shipping the rest of the cans back, which I won't do because I don't want to pay all that extra shipping. For the poster who asked about the price of the food, I ordered on May 22 and paid $27.50 for a case of 24 5.5 oz cans, plus $4.95 shipping. I would love to hear from the other folks who have recently ordered from Evangers regarding the condition of their shipments when they arrive...

I just ordered a case of Evangers food which arrived today. The cans have a "best by" date of May 2012; however, they were dented and appeared rusty when they arrived. I called Evangers and spoke to a woman there who told me that they had just manufactured the food and that the dents and rusty appearance were due to entirely natural factors (having something to do with hard water and canning processes). This seemed a little weird to me, and I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem with mail orders? I am now wondering if they are shipping the less attractive (unsalable) foods to customers who order direct (because it will be a giant pain to ship it back) so they can ship the dent-free cans to retailers?
(my apologies for posting this in two separate threads, I am new to this forum/blog process and really hope to receive some input from other posters on this issue)
