1  Itchmo News and Announcements / Suggestions/Help / Re: Black Holes or IP blocking? on: April 26, 2008, 03:41:19 PM
There was a DNS issue on Monday/Tuesday related to migrating servers last month.  Our DNS was still pointing to the old server so when I had them cancel the old account the DNS crapped out and the forums could not be accessed by the domain name, and all your pings and tracerts would have failed on those days.  That's been resolved now.

As for the PM issue... I don't know what's going on with that... but considering how much SMF sucks, i wouldnt' be surprised if there are some security issues.  I keep hearing complaints about e-mail addresses showing up and some days I consider just hacking up the code to remove it all together...

Sorry, we had DNS issues as we're trying to cut down on servers to save money.  It looks like the DNS system has finally caught up for the most part and it seems to be working again.  There may be some internet providers that will take a few more days to catch up so give it a day or two to start working again.

Ok, some DNS issues took longer than expected, but i believe it's working again.

Will be doing some server maintenance on itchmo.com.  The main site may experience some outages as a result.  Hopefully it will be done by tomorrow.

Sorry, the last ban was done improperly.

I got some spam too.

Thanks for catching it JustMe.

I didn't turn off e-mail verification for new members but it looks like someone did...  I assume it was done for a reason so I'm not going to change it.

If you don't have a hearing impaired friend, why would you ever accept a relay call?  It just screams sketchy...

You mean a coop, right?

A chicken coup would be quite a sight though!

I just got a forum notification and another notification for this topic as well...

However, it only seem to work sometimes... which is really odd.

These sorts of errors are really frustrating b/c they're not something as simple as a mis-configuration and they aren't easily reproducible...

At this point, it does not look like a problem with anyone's e-mail, it seems to be something with the e-mail server.  But I don't know what it could be!

Probably just hokey thinking that, but it helps.  (I bet someone will post a study now that what I am doing is totally ineffective.  I do have my doubts about water being able to wash those BSE prions away.  Undecided )

I had my doubts too, but if you think about it... why is it ok to eat a rare steak?  The reason is that most bacteria grows on the surface of meat (ground meat is bad b/c grinding has opened up lots of surface area).  That's why searing just the outside of meat is considered good enough for restaurants to serve seared tuna or beef carpaccio.

So, if bacteria is primarily on the surface of the meat, then theoretically, washing the surface should decrease the total amount that is present.  Whether the amount washed away is significant enough to make it safe is debatable, but I would think it helps some.

Given that...  I don't bother washing my meat.

Just some food for thought...

E. Coli is everywhere.  I can almost guarantee that you have it on your hands, in your kitchen and in your refrigerator at this very moment.

If you're not washing your hands for at least 30 seconds, regardless of the cleaning product you're using, you're allowing a lot of bacteria to live and increasing the chance that it will develop resistance.

Also, studies have shown that people who clean and sanitize regularly are more susceptible to infections due to their decreased exposure because their immune systems aren't being exercised as much.

Well, I got a notification for the message you just sent... so I'm not sure what's going on... apparently topic notifications are working...

Off-Topic has a little over 3000 posts total.  I know forums that receive 3000 off topic posts every day...

Is anyone else having this problem?  Wondering if it's a server config issue...
