db, it's been questioned in coffee creamer products, too. That would be faking fake food. I wondered about that. I couldn't think of a reason to do that since I don't think non-dairy creamer is supposed to have any protein content, but who knows? The melamine could whiten coffee nicely and be cheaper than what is safer. Actually non-dairy has casein in it as a binder, which is a milk product, also used in white glue, forget the reason that it is considered non-dairy. Interesting isn't it, dairy product that is considered non-dairy db

Gak. I don't really get this stuff, but why did the news report Freddy and Fannie as leveraged at 60:1? I probably don't want to know.
Arlo I believe those are not "banks" in the traditional sense. Like I had mentioned some can be leveraged way beyond the point of idiocy. A 60:1 ratio is impossible to maintain, only the absolutely greedy morons who can be protected by the govt and banking lobbyists could ever think of getting away with it. db

Yes, we seem to prefer the 30:1 leverage model, and securities that are rated by morons.
Quite a house of cards that Wall Street built.
5CatMom =^..^=
5cat From what I have read and understand I would beg to differ. There actually is no leverage ratio that can be determined. Typically the banks create wealth electronically, they could be 100:1 or even more, there really is no way of telling. If it was just 30:1 I believe that it wouldn't be as bad as it is. I would guess more in the are of 80-100:1. Interestingly by law it is only supposed to be 9:1 Any of you out there that know more about this, please comment, I don't mind being corrected db

Nabiya
Thanks for the info
Just looked and found some pizza hut cheese powder, doesn't say where it is made but has a plant # of 06-610, then found some other brand with the same plant number, so they all go in the trash, no have to toss them outside in the garbage so that the big goof Thanka doesn't get them out of the garbage can.
there is a supplier ID of 00000386-02 a GIN# of 0015954 and the plant# of 06-610. Packed exclusively for Pizza-Hut Dallas,TX
I wish I knew what any of that means, no COOL or any reference to anywhere it is made, it does say that it contains milk.

Melamine had been around a long time, very useful commercial substance, used for all kinds of things that in no way would indicate that it would in any way shape or form be suitable for food.
I wonder who the [edited] genius was that came up with this to be used in food. (testing bad word filter)

the Mr. Clean "Magic Eraser" cleaning sponge by Procter & Gamble is made of melamine foam. purringfur That should give everyone an idea of what this stuff actually is. Tough, resilient plastic that has industrial, and commercial uses. This should tell everyone that it does not belong in food of any kind, pet or human or livestock. db

Pet Behavior and Health Questions / Veterinary and Medications / Re: Forti-Flora

Basically forti-flora is a probiotic. So any probiotic that you can get down your pet is pretty much about the same. We use the ones by Nature's Sunshine, have been using them for years on the dogs and cats. The dogs will usually eat the capsules, the cat gets it on her food. No matter which ones you buy make sure the bacteria are live. Difference in price is dramatic, forti-flora is really pricey and you can get the same results for much less. Try a health food store and ask for probiotics.
