I called the FDA numerous times in April to file a report, left messages, pleaded for them to return my call. They never did. I sure hope things have changed.

I got really sick for about a week after my flu shot in early October. I never really get sick. My husband and I got the flu on Christmas Day in the 1991 and were both flat on our backs for two weeks. Miserable holiday for our son. We've always gotten shots since then. My husband gets his at work and I always go to my family physician. My Mother is 85 and was sick for about 2 weeks after her shot this year too. Hmmmm..........

I think the PFI industry article on how to handle a recall really points to how much of a coverup there was. The 'PFI brotherhood' has stuck together on this and kept the truth from the public by downplaying everything. Even the article about the UCDavis study says 'dozens of pets died'. What a bunch of bull. Since they are all aware that the FDA has no real authority, they are free to keep the poison coming. The health of their customers (pets) doesn't mean a thing as long as they are still making money and keeping everything hush-hush. While Menu is the one who took the brunt of the blame, they are all to blame, they all knew a long time before we did.

What an arrogant jerk. Who cares thousands more pets get sick or die just so they save the company. They know that the government has no recourse, so they are free to hurt and kill all they want. What's the difference between this mentality and that of someone who would torture an animal? I don't see a difference - slow, plainful sickness and/or death, but because they wear suits and have lots of money - it's legal?

3Cat,
Thanks for the info. I've sent so many letters and emails and gotten so very few responses. It's disheartening. I'll send emails to the people you suggested and hope for a response. It's just a shame that guidelines even need to be written. It's not rocket science to know that toxins should not be in any foods for pets, livestock or humans.
Thanks again, Cathy

3Cat, I'm trying to understand what AAFCO does. I looked at their website http://www.aafco.org/Portals/0/Public/petfood_regulations.pdf Their guidelines already say that food should not be 'adulterated or incorrectly labeled' and now they are going to spend over a year to rewrite the obvious in a different way? Sorry, not trying to be negative, just trying to understand. Cathy

Hi Lynn,
Dog, 6 year old Springer Spaniel, eating Nutro Natural Choice Lamb & Rice, died 4/11/07 Aug. 2006 Doxycycline (6 wk course) Dec. 2006 Clavamox - 2x/day - 2 weeks Doxycycline (6 wk course) Shot of penicillin (have to check records for exact name if you need it) Feb 2007 Shot of penicillin (same as above) WBC a little high
I think now that the food had some type of fungus or mold. We thought he had Lyme disease, that's why the 6-wk doxycycline, but it probably helped him live longer.
