Johanns is number one on my full of s---- list!!!
IN EVERYTHING he talks about or covers!!!

It was USDA, Mr. Johanns, that fast tracked the LL rice for approval in November 2006.  He can't even lie good!!  It was Mr. Johanns that ran to Canada to help them with their BSE issue.. I hope they threw him to the curb!

all IMO of course !!!!

Welcome Lisa, glad you are here... So very sorry about your Newfoundlands, it leaves us all highly distressed ..

Donna -  have you heard back from this pork producer you emailed?

Quote
These symptoms uncomfortably resounded within me, so much so, that I emailed one of the hog producers.  This person was seeking other producers, specifically for feed testing.  Actually, he was imploring them to have the feed checked.  I am hoping I will get a response, along with the report, as he went ahead and had his feed tested on his own.

Looks like this poster had some testing done.. http://www.thepigsite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4

snip:
Everyone beware, toxic selenium levels in pig livers and feed at my farm, more than one feed company affected, have the test results on liver and feeds, level in feed is just enough to cause a chronic problem that has many side effects. aborted fetus liver level is off the chart.
Looks like many different things. My pigs symptoms are feet and leg problems, aborting, not getting pregnant, still borns, deformed piglets, excessive number of abcesses, occasional vomiting or much vomiting if there are hot spots in the feed.
Damage is permanent in most of my pigs. Some have died from it and some don't show symptoms.
This can be tested for in livers or hair samples. I urge everyone to test for Selenium levels if they are experiencing any "odd" problems.
Feed companies are: one really big Company and a local family operation.

Please everyone go to http://www.ansci.cornell.edu/toxicag.../selenium.html

When you read it, let me know if it sounds familiar to any of your problems. We do have a diagnosis but have yet to prove where it is coming from. I need to know if I am the only one with these problems.

My pigs are dying slowly. Another one has gone down.

I have also seen shaking pigs with this problem.

Note the cornell university study link, that I would really like to read -  not working for me, probably  need authorization to access as I can not access anything else using their search..

4  Pet Food Info (Menu Foods, Iams, Purina, Hills, Ol'Roy, etc.) / Pet Food Testing / Re: Test Results on: August 31, 2007, 08:58:45 AM
I do want to say my experiences with ExperTox were outstanding and very professional..

I had a composite done of two flavors, where they combine them for testing.. ( see my results on the Innova thread )..  They came back negative, but had it shown any trace elements, I would have then followed the course of additional testing separately.  In doing a composite you save money innitialy but only it if all comes back negative. Had they been positive, they had enough in possession to do a separate test on each one. ( that was just from sample bags submitted) and further fees required...  Everything was explained to me before testing...  I was given the choices upfront.. Knew exactly what the procedures were all about..  I chose the composite test first, a bit of a gamble... got a negative so no further testing required..

When the test was completed, I was notified by phone and was given a choice of fax or email or both for results..  I chose the email.  Which arrived swiftly and I posted immediately on the Innova thread...  I refrained from posting results until email was in hand.  I received the email that day..

I would think Mary could have her friend call and request an email of test results to immediately clear this up and post them here..  All it takes is a phone call request for an email report, then all will be satisfied and no one will have cause to doubt one way or the other..  Keeping the harmony with facts is a good thing...

I wonder what the difference is between Alltech's recalled Bioplex/Selplex and Sel-plex Selenium?

I just talked with FDA and they told me that Alltech issued their notification of recall to their customers on March 26th, 2007..

Is that all the brands they make in Everson?  Doane makes lots of private label brands for big box stores.  Don't know where they are made though

JustMe - I'm not sure what is made where.  But since they are being so "closed lipped" about brands involved and not providing the proper information.  Thought it best to list what Mars produces.  You just never know what may be next..

Though the amount in humans "may seem like an incredibly small amount, it causes effects in human cells at the part-per-trillion level," he said.

Thanks for all this info..  I'm shaking my head as I read parts per trillion !!!!  How much more disturbing can that be?

Since recalled Red Flannel and Krasdale are not part of the Salmonella recall..... and... Mars issues a Salmonella recall without giving the brands involved...  Everything is suspect...

Mars also owns:
Pedigree
Royal Canin
Sheba
Whiskas
Cesar
Waltham
Kit e Kat
Pal
Aquarian
Trill
NUTRO ----->  that was bought by Mars in May 2007

I would think their reimportaion log on the OASIS refusal should look something like this...  Here is an example from OASIS refusal  2/2007:

Kerr Corporation
    Orange, CA  92667                              NYK-DO  112-3524197-5/1/1A
    76E--MA   US GOODS RETURNED
                        22-FEB-2007                        NOT LISTED
                                                           NO 510(K)

Did Nutro forget to file a prior notice?  Their refusals should have "U.S. Goods returned" if this was followed for reimportation...

U.S. Goods Returned:
18.1 Is prior notice required for "reimported" food product that was produced in the U.S., shipped to a foreign country, and then shipped back to the U.S. without further processing?
Yes. FDA has determined that, for the purposes of section 801(m) of the FD&C Act, the phrase "imported or offered for import into the United States" applies to articles of food of U.S. origin that are "reimported" back into the U.S. (68 FR 58990; 21 CFR 1.277). These reimportations are most often referred to as American Goods Returned or U.S. Goods Returned.

Food - General:
1.1 For the purposes of the prior notice regulation, what is food?
[Response updated April 2004] Food is defined in § 1.276 of the Prior Notice IFR by reference to section 201(f) of the FD&C Act, which defines food as articles used for food or drink for man or other animals, chewing gum, and articles used for components of any such articles (21 U.S.C. 321(f)). However, for purposes of prior notice, the definition of food does not include food contact substances or pesticides (21 CFR 1.276(b)(5)(i)). Examples of food subject to prior notice include: fruits, vegetables, fish, including seafood, dairy products, eggs, raw agricultural commodities for use as food or as components of food, animal feed (including pet food), food and feed ingredients, food and feed additives, dietary supplements and dietary ingredients, infant formula, beverages (including alcoholic beverages and bottled water), live food animals, bakery goods, snack foods, candy, and canned foods.

I find this link no longer working, is it connected to Darling? and is the message below the link a snip from it?

Yup, I can see it now heading for the rendering plant.

And, a couple of insights into why an animal might not eat a food:

http://web.archive.org/web/20070203105909/http://www.darlingii.com/askross/faq.html

If fat becomes rancid enough, the birds can be affected. The first sign observed may be reduced feed consumption.

Animals are reluctant to eat a diet that contains an amino acid imbalance..

Are you kidding me?

Don't tell me they are taking recalled food and putting a new UPC sticker on them to resale to the public.  That is what it sounds like...

What am I missing here?
