This happened one night two weeks ago when mother-in-law and sister-in-law were here on a visit from sunny California.

Just past midnight and I am deep at work on my laptap in the living room.  Four generations of humans are under one roof for the night, three of which are fast asleep:  daughter and hubby in one bedroom with their two very young sons; mother-in-law and sister-in-law asleep in the room adjoining.  The cats, I thought, were asleep in my room.  There I was tapping away at the keyboard when..
I heard my daughter's high-pitched screetch: "ayeee, eeeehhh, eeeehhh, eeehhh!"
immediately followed by son-in-law's deeper scream: "whahh?!!! ahh , ahh, ahhh, ahhh!"
simultaneously with two young boys' chorus screetch: "aaaaa, aaaa, aaaa" and "eeeee, eeeee, eeee"

I jumped up from my chair, ran towards the hallway and arrived at one end just as mother-in-law and sister-in-law emerged at the other end from their bedroom.  Both where screaming "whhhhattt? whhhhaaaaattt???!!"

I was screaming: "whhaaat, whaaat, whattt?

At about the same time, I spotted my two cats, fast-trotting it out of my daughter and son-in-law's bedroom, ears flattened and their panicked eyes telling the story: "Oh, boy... are we in trouble now..."

When all the screaming stopped, my daughter told us that just before all this happened, she was having a bad dream... she was suffocating... can't move... she half opened her eyes and saw a HUGE black shape on her chest with four gleeming eyes (it was Kaffe and Cato) and she jerked awake screaming... her hubby jerked up, saw the black shapes melting fom the bed and sat up screaming... then the kids were screaming becuase mom and dad were screaming... then everyone in the house was screaming.

After all this was sorted out, everyone but the cats and I went peacefully back to sleep.  There was hell to pay next day of course.

See this is funny

Now I know why no one wants to stay over night here, it isn't the cat, but a couple of the dogs do that, Buck (80#) would stand on my chest or on my neck in the morning, Lakota (130#) loves to lay on top of us too. I bet that would scare the hell out of someone Grin

I used to think that anyone doing anything weird was weird. I suddenly realized that anyone doing anything weird wasn't weird at all and it was the people saying they were weird that were weird.

Great story! My wife and I often are woke up by one of our cats standing on our chests staring at us.

How about the cat(s) startled by noises (dogs) in the middle of the night running across you.  Ouch!  We have the gashes from those.   Undecided

Ahh, what we put up with.
