My daughter and I have had several in depth discussions about pet food.  Suddenly, BeauCat has been catching mice.  We decided he figured it was safer to catch his own food.  Of course, my husband immediately accused us of anthropomorphism.  I decided to look up everything I could about the word.  I found several uses.  Occasionally, sea captains attribute human characteristics to their ships, meteorologists to storms, pet parents to pets, and primitive beings to their gods.  I know what my pets believe!

Well, MrsP - how about a word for those of us who live with animal compnions for so long that we begin to think and talk "Dog" or "Cat."  Me?  I think felidphormism applies very well.  If you live with a dog, the word should be Canidphormism.  No, wait... 'feline' and 'canine' are Latin-derived names.  "Anthropos" is the Greek word for "man,"  from where "anthropophormism" is derived.  So, if we are to be true to form, we should get Greek names.  Let's see... "cat" in Greek is "gatos" and "dog" in Greek is "skylos."  So:
Gatophormism - attributing cat or feline behavior, emotions, psychology to humans
Skylophormism - attributing dog or canine behavior, emotions, psychology to humans

How's that?  ha ha ha ha  Grin

I love languages!
