http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-06/eagles-quarterback-michael-vick-selected-nfl-comeback-player-of-the-year.html

Bloomberg February 5, 2011

"Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was chosen the National Football League’s Comeback Player of the Year in his second season after serving a federal prison term for his participation in a dog-fighting ring.

"Once the highest-paid player in the league when he was with the Atlanta Falcons, Vick was described as “cruel and reprehensible” by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for participating a ring in which dogs that lost fights were drowned, hanged, shot or electrocuted.

"In April 2007, he took part in the killing of eight animals, one of which was dispatched by slamming it into the ground, his criminal indictment said."

Still think the way in which these ilk inflict the inhumane treatment should be given right back to them. Lets slam them on the ground and see how long it takes til they are on the other side of the dirt. SCUM, pure SCUM is all these inhumane ilk are - all of 'em, not just this one.

The Eagles are looking at making him their "franchise "player & keeping him for years.  Angry I still say being able to throw a football well doesn't excuse being a sociopath.

I second that!

Wasn't there a time when we held our sports starts to a higher standard because we knew they were role models for kids?  What ever happened to that?  Now, if you can make lots of money, you can get a pass on just about anything.

Not a good message to send to the youth of America.

I agree, it doesnt help any when one of the organizations (Humane Society) that are supposedly in charge of protecting animals, helps glorify him.  This man is given a platform to speak on the issue of animal abuse because he abused animals when there are hundreds of rescue groups way more qualified to speak on the subject because they see first-hand the long-term affects these animals suffer at the hands of people like Vick. How can Vick speak to the long-term suffering people like him cause? He isnt taking care of the animals that survived so he doesnt know. Im sorry but in my opinion, he's a punk. I have never cared for football but Im sorry to say, its left a really bad taste in my mouth for the sport when the organization props him up as a hero simply because he can toss a ball good.

Well said, everyone! He is a pathetic excuse for a human being and the fact that he is glorified for his athletic skills is a sad commentary on our society and what it values.  Undecided Undecided Undecided

I agree, well said indeed everyone. I expect better, more responsible choices regarding awards and etc. from anyone who has so much influence on the young. Sad, sad state of affairs.

Vick runs into controversy, confrontation at Dallas event

Last Saturday afternoon (the same day he received the AP Comeback Player of the Year award), Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick(notes) was given the key to the city of Dallas by Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway, an action that caused an uproar among local animal-rights groups ... and the actual mayor of the city, Tom Leppert.

"The action taken was not sanctioned by my office and was not an official ceremonial honor on behalf of the City of Dallas," Leppert said in a statement. "Official Keys to the City are presented by the Mayor, or an elected official designated by the Mayor, and reserved, on a limited basis, for an elected official of international status. Clearly, this was not the case in this situation and done without my knowledge or approval."

seems pet groups have spoken LOUD and CLEAR about how they feel about this!
