Trooper,Remy & Fragile

« on: December 31, 2007, 08:13:02 PM »

I didn't latch the basement door tightly this afternoon & Trooper got the edge of a cookie tray & pulled it down off the shelf. He ate a whole tray of dark chocolate dipped coconut macaroons. We gave him 3 doses of peroxide & it still took an hour for him to vomit. It was already giving him the runs.Spent the late afternoon & early evening at the emergency vets.He had a hugh amount of charcoal & shots of pepcid to stop the vomitting. So far no increased heart rate, seizures or tremors. Just 1 very unhappy, sick, hungry & thirsty dog. He's been laying in front of his place mat crying for his dinner & water.I feel like the worst mom in the world ! Yesterday my daughters boyfriends dog got attacked at the dog park, & my mother in laws dog got hit by a car & killed Fri night. My friends cat got locked in a bedroom with no food or water for 2 1/2 days last week & my sister in laws dog is still missing since 12/1. It doesn't look good for any animals near me right now ! Maybe we could just skip right to 2009. Anyway hope things are going better for all of you ,& please make sure the chocolate is WAY out of reach !

Oh my! The animals in your life sure are unlucky. Hope Trooper will be alright and not suffer any lasting ills. Since I'm a cat person, I'm going to ask a very stupid question here. I know that chocolate is very poisonous for cats but I take it, it is the same for dogs too, right?

Give my condolences to your mother-in-law (and everyone else  who was close to the dog). That is not any way for an animal to go. I'm so sorry for her loss. Also give a hug to your sister in law in hopes of finding her poor lost dog.

How is your daughters boyfriends dog? Was he hurt very badly?

Is your friends cat doing ok after his bad ordeal?

What a  set of sad events to happen over the holidays.

((((((hugs to everyone))))))))

Trooper,Remy & Fragile

Mary- Thank you. So far so good with Trooper. Luckily he is a big dog[78 lbs],but it was a lot of dark chocolate which is the worst kind. Yes it is poisonous for dogs also.
Marie, the trapped cat was a little dehydrated so I gave her the water from a can of tuna. The saltiness made her drink more. She didn't throw up after eating & checked out ok at the vet. Moon just had some scratches & minor bites. The idiot who owned the other dog lives just down the street from the dog park & let the dog out without his invisible fence collar on. There is still no sign of Cheyenne & we are losing hope for her.
The worst part of Brandy being hit is that my mother in law must have been on the road too. She is an altzheimers patient & was doing fairly well until this. We can't get an answer from her about what happened. She was in the house with the other dog when my sister in law got home & found Brandy out front. She keeps going out to look for her.We have a nursing company coming out Wed to evaluate her,& hopefully they can start right away. Til then we are all taking turns taking time off to be there. Brandy was her constant companion & never more than a foot or two away from her. We've had to tell her what happened over & over & every time it's like she just found out.

Thank you everyone. I'm feeling much better about the New Year this am. Trooper made it all night without any increased heart rate or seizures. He was very happy to get some ground chicken & rice too !Keep your fingers crossed that the nursing agency will take Mom as a client tomorrow for us  & that Cheyenne will come home.

Oh Leslie, I am so sorry about all the bad things that have happened to animals in your life recently!  I'm glad to hear that Trooper is better today.  Hoping for good news on the other fronts too.

I have written to Lesliek privately so She knows how sorry I am. so much all at once is just too much.
If your mother- in law has altzheimers, i'll tell you it's a hard hard thing to go through.
My grandmother had it, and I brought Her and Her 2 cats down from Maine to stay with Me. Well, one day I came home from work and She was across the road with My Springer spaniel. Just walking around. I thought i'd have a heart attack. One day She took a kitten and just took off down the road with it. Just kept right on walking . my husband went and brought them home. She loved animals, just didn't know what she was doing.

And as I already told Lesliek, My daughters puppy got into Her husbands' fluid pills and ate them all. Her son came home from school and called Her at work immediatey
She called Me, I called the vet, Etc. anyway, even though He is a child I told him to give the dog peroxide right then and not to wait for His mother. Give it to him until He trows up. He did and We talked to vet again. Anyway, He seems fine now. but what a scare.
So, a new lesson for all of us. If the pets can find it, they will eat it.

So sorry for your luck at the moment.   Cheyenne may still turn up.   Chocolate is a killer, so your dog is lucky that he survived it.   Hope that 2008 will improve for you & the pets around you.
Happy New Year 2008!

Klondike- Yes,when you have a large family & add in friends & neighbors it seems like something is always happening. Really bad when bad things happen; but really good when good things happen. It always helps to share the good & bad.Thank you all, you have made the last year truly happier.

lesliek,

Oh my, what a bad time you have been having.  I'm so sorry.  I'm glad Trooper is okay now.  It's a lot to be dealing with at anytime, let alone during the holiday season.
