Dead animals processed at Pine Tree Rendering
FREE FARM PICKUP: Down cattle, horses unfit for human use become food for pets

BRIER HILL — "A new rendering plant is providing free services to local farmers who cooperate with its corporate guidelines.

"Farmers have it hard enough," said William C. Boslet, plant manager at Pine Tree Rendering, 2522 Route 37, which opened Jan. 17. The plant is at the former Northern Packaging Co., Inc. and Perretta Packaging Co., a family-owned, USDA-inspected slaughterhouse that was sold in November 2007 to Gold Medal Packaging, which operates Scooby Rendering in Utica.

"In May, when Pine Tree Rendering was classified by the Morristown Town Council as an agribusiness, Mr. Boslet said the facility would butcher dead or downed farm animals not fit for human consumption and turn the carcasses into pet food. It no longer is a slaughterhouse, as no animal is killed at the facility."
