This is not good news for our already overburdened shelters, TNR workers, and rescuers.   Sad

Global warming may be lengthening breeding seasons

Global warming and kittens. While it may seem hard to see the connection between the two -- a climate phenomenon that melts glaciers and acidifies oceans, and cuddly, 4-ounce balls of fur -- experts say there could be one.

The county shelter here reported that they had a big boost of cats this year.  They have some boarded and fostered since they are trying to save as many as they can.  I was wondering why, since if it were all due to the economy, you would think the dog population would spike just as much.

Never thought of global warming, but I can see where the weather could do that.

You know, we have been talking for a long time about cats now going into heat even in the winter months, toms prowling and spraying in January--I guess more litters are the inevitable result.
