Hey Itchmonians,

You all know the story about Jack the cat. This is yet another cat that escaped a broken kennel when being transported from cargo to baggage. I was just thinking that there may be some Albertans in Itchmo Forum land that might have some connections and may be able to help by posting on FB.

At the very least, you may want to read the story and follow the information being posted on a new FaceBook page that was developed for this purpose. If anyone can help at all with connections to folks working at Edmonton International, someone living in Leduc, Alberta or someone in the area who can be a "boots on the ground" liaison, please post on FB or PM me if you're not on FB. It's a small world and you never know what can happen. We'd all really like to see a happy ending with this one.

George has been missing since the end of September but had been spotted several times since but not recently.

Thanks all!

Trudy, he has a couple of FB pages right now. There is an official one where there's the most current information. If you go to the link I provided, one of the entries has the other FB page. If you can go there and like the page and share it, it might help. Edmonton International has been good about this and is still actively looking for him as well as a local rescue group.

Please, don't anyone flame Air Canada or Edmonton International on their FB pages. They are on good working terms with the rescue group and it should continue that way. There have been some people posting not-so-nice message on the Air Canada page and the rescue group really needs to keep the lines of communication open so they continue to get their cooperation.

I will be following up regarding possibly changing protocol with the Canadian governing body that oversees the transportation of animals in cargo as well as contacting kennel manufacturers to see if they can make a slight modification to their designs to include extra holes for zip ties. I don't think that's too much to ask.

I hope George is found soon, and I hope he has access to food somehow.

If he's outside, he has access to all the field mice any cat could ever want. That, and many of the hangars in the area put food out for ferals and some have their own "hangar" cat. Even Air Canada Cargo has their own cat. So, there is food in many places.

There is sad news on the one Facebook page; there is limited information but it seems George was unable to adapt to the winter weather conditions and perished as a result. Poor kitty.  Cry

I didn't check Facebook today and this is what I find here. I'm so sad over this. Now I'm on a mission to change the game. Will be contacting kennel manufacturers and IATA (the overseeing body for the airlines). I know there are thousands lined up behind me who want change. I'll be taking a page out of The Cat's Mother's book and I hope to achieve as much as she has.

I'm just sick and angry over this. It was so unnecessary.  Cry

Latest on the Facebook page says the poor little cat who was found frozen was NOT George but a female cat instead. So there is still a chance George could still be found although there has been quite a gap in time from when the poor female cat was found and the identification was made.

A new post just appeared with a news link as well:

The people who are part of the search at EIA never stopped searching because until yesterday, there was no proof that the cat who was found was George. Very sad for this little girl that was found but she's going to have a dignified cremation and burial. And the search for George continues.
