Here is a heart-warming story.  For some reason, I keep getting out of memory error messages on itchmo.com, so I'll post the link here instead.

Let's be fair - this is rural West Virginia. The dog's owners don't look like they have a lot of money, and it's possible they can't afford air conditioning. Or that it broke down. We just don't know enough to pass judgment.

Considering the lengths they were willing to go to in order to get the dog out (spending two days in a hole, driving to Kentucky to get a backhoe, building a culvert to keep him from drowning) - I think they deserve better than to be chastised. It's pretty snobbish of those of us who have money to look down on other animal lovers who don't have as much, but who do the best they can with what they have. I mean, would the dog be better off dumped on the side of the road like so many others in that area of the country?

OF, It is a beautiful story.

It's too bad you couldn't open the first video link Klondike.  I don't know if it is the same one straybaby posted.  The crying for joy of this man at rescuing his dog is wonderful.  The whole family fighting back tears.

I needed the uplifting story.

Did anybody watch the second video that automatically came up after it?  Rottweiller nurses kitten.  Of course, you have to sit through the initial commercial.

my issue was they think he may have gone missing friday, but didn't notice until sat afternoon. has nothing to do with money. i just hope they pay more attention to his where abouts, and judging from their reactions, i think they will. dals like to be with their people. mine's been trying to sleep in my lap all day, so consequently, not much work has gotten done yet!

Klondike: Nope, not judging. I have no way of knowing your financial situation, and I don't in any way think that putting your dog first makes you a snob. I just think it's also important that none of us judge people who love and care for their animals despite their poverty, simply because they can't afford to give them things like dog buggies or even more basic things that we take for granted. I think of the huge pet overpopulation problem especially in that part of the country - there are too many animals and not enough people willing to look after them, and a lot of them end up dumped. Given that situation, I'm convinced the dog is better off where he is with people who love him, air conditioning or no.

straybaby: Yeah, I can see your point about them not noticing he was missing for a day. Probably an outside dog - we had one when I was a kid and lived out on a farm. I'm betting they'll be keeping a closer eye on him from now on though! (Edit: and your dal is adorable!)

Glad we cleared that up.  Smiley  And I agree, I hope CNN stays on this story so that the country knows where to send donations if they're needed.

I've got a soft spot for senior pets myself.

Er ... KD would like me to point out for the record that she's not old, just a hell of a lot more mature and dignified than those annoying little single-digit kittens.

Contrast the love that this West Virginia family has towards their spotted family member to this family:

keciacat,

I hope there is a special place in hell reserved for this man (and I use the term very loosely).

What? They didn't put down a plate for the dog like we do at my place?

now that just ticks me off! taking a dog that obviously isn't a dog park dog to one. now the poor owner of the dobie has to deal with the fact he had to kill a dog to save his. god i hate irresponsible dog owners!
