Yeah Carol, I wonder if the difficulties are some sort of lawsuit filed by PFC's but then you would think they would have already reported that....cant wait to hear the news and thank you for being as impatient as me! LOL

Carol... Ask what happened to the cat food testing?? It was reading like they only ended up testing dog food... opps.. missed that one Thanks for calling them Carol. It's a bit unnerving to have a group collect $16,000.00 =/- and leave the donors in limbo after their "announcement" about fluoride and leaving the cat food testing abandoned... Offy, I so very much agree, I donated alot to that project and it makes me strongly hesitate about donating to them anymore.

Knowing that fluoride is one of their "pet" people projects had me irked more when I saw the blurb announcement...
Maybe it's important for us & our pets to know that too, but to see it just another cog in a wheel of things we cannot get the pfi to change without more than a cursory "blip" on the screen is maddening.
What happened to the heavy metals and other things. Did we really fund a deeper look into their fluoride research and not pet food issues?
Here we sit now with flame retardants & fluoride "scientific" studies on pet foods .. wonder what is next on the list?
Shoot, we cannot even get a decent (or not) pet food company to take the leap to testing ingredients/finished products for true protein.
If only, EWG had taken that leap and tested the foods for true protein... that would have made the news and get some attention....
Yup, "If only" buys about as much oxygen as your lungs will hold...

I hope we get an answer to the questions about their testing. However, I have always been a bit skeptical about this organization. Just seemed to me to be a very few people with an ambitious intention, but not very reliable to actually deliver anything of significance. There are many such well meaning groups around the country asking for donations, but not really able to have much of an impact with what they do. Hope I'm wrong.

Carol, Did the e-mail mention the testing at all? You do have to wonder if someone didn't quickly post something to that blog just because they were getting inquiries about what was going on.

Carol, Did the e-mail mention the testing at all? You do have to wonder if someone didn't quickly post something to that blog just because they were getting inquiries about what was going on. Here is the email I got---I feel I can post it as it is not personal to me---it's a general release email that I subscribed too last year..
Hello, my fellow furry (and feathered and finned) friends!
It's Eddie here, and I have a quick update from my human friends at Environmental Working Group. They just released the 5th version of their Shopper's Guide to Pesticides.
This is a super handy guide that lists which types of fruits and veggies have the most and least pesticides on them, so whoever's doing the shopping (I'm not tall enough to push the cart) can know when to buy organic and when conventional is an OK choice.
If your owner makes you a yummy homemade dinner with veggies in it, you might want them to take a look at the Shopper's Guide to make sure you aren't chowing down on an extra serving of pesticides.
Then take on walk on over to my blog for my latest post, with more tips on what fruits and vegetables aren't so great for non-human tummies.
Until next time, pet crusaders!
Wags,
Eddie

Amanda & Eddie were the ones that started the pets for the environment blog.. Blogging & communication slowed down immensely after Amanda wasn't with EWG anymore. I have no idea who took over the blog.

Uh OK, telling people to watch out for pesticides in vegies is good, but hallo....where's the big report they said they would be putting out in January on pet food they tested....or if they dont have it done, maybe they could provide an update on why and when it will be done would be good.....me getting slightly cranky about this and my donations to them.

This is Carol's post below.....note how their response to her looks exactly the same as their response to me. Now Im wondering if something came up and they decided not to do the testing but dont want to tell anyone, they sure are being secretive about this. ETA: Actually the more I think about this, the madder I get. If they arent going to follow through with a testing project, they need to be honest and tell us why or what the cause of the delay is. Im wondering if Consumer Affairs would want to ask them why and report on it?

I e:mailed Susan Thixton and she may have some contact numbers, etc so she said she would try to find out something and let us know if she can.

Im wondering if Consumer Affairs would want to ask them why and report on it? After the fluoride/bone meal scare, they didn't substantiate it with the report. The last I heard they had collected over $16,000 from pet parents, and that started back in April 2008. It's been a year. Otherwise, with no answers from EWG or PetsfortheEnvironment forthcoming, I believe a complaint should be filed.
