Hi,

I was clleaning out under my kitchen sink the other day and found two unopened cans of Hill's Prescription Diet w/d that's been sitting for--  well, a REALLY long time.  I seem to recall that someone somewhere was asking for old unopened food to see if bad products have been in the food for years.

I bought the food for a cat that died almost three years ago...  he wouldn't eat the stuff and I put it away as "emergency" food if I ran out.  The "Best By" date is 12/2001.  I had it in a box under the sink and when I moved, I just moved the box!  Finally said, "What the heck is in there??"  And I found the food.

If there is anyone interested in looking at/testing historic *s* food as a baseline, let me know.  I have 2 14 ounce cans that are available.

Don't know what would show on a test as that food is 5 1/2 yrs past the use date or best by date. Maybe you could contact a rendering plant - they probably would be intersted in it since its already spoiled by now - just joking!!

Since the food is that old it might not be good for proving anything, the manufacturer could always claim any problems found due to age. However maybe you should keep it, you never know when someone may need a reference sample.
I don't remember who was looking for old food, sure someone was not coming to mind. Maybe try a search?

I used to think that anyone doing anything weird was weird. I suddenly realized that anyone doing anything weird wasn't weird at all and it was the people saying they were weird that were weird.
