November 13, 2007.

I had two samples tested in conjunction with my legal battles concerning against Menu Pet Foods/ Nutro etc.

Both samples were tested by Expertox and both came back positive, for among other things, acetaminophen.
Both samples were listed in the "recall notice"

My test was unique in the following way:
One sample was an UNOPENED, UNUSED pouch of recalled food.
One same was an OPENED, but FROZEN pouch of food I saved when my puppy became ill.

The tests found acetaminophen in BOTH the open and the unused pouches.
I am now paying to have further testing done on both pouches to determine the amount of acetaminophen is present.

The original testing was done the first week of November, 2007 (this month)
New testing will soon get underway.

I still have over a dozen of un-opened pouches and several more frozen (but opened)  pouches.

Now I am trying to track down an expet who can testify concerning the what would be considered a TOXIC level of acetaminophen.

Does anyone one such an expert?

my direct phone is 401-526-2000 or email which is bobnsri@mac.com

OMG!!! so... acetaminophen in dogfood recalled for melamine/cyanuric acid contamination...

Is there a legal reason for not naming this pouched dog food here?  I am sure a lot of us would really like to know and take warning.

You said,

"I am now paying to have further testing done on both pouches to determine the amount of acetaminophen is present."

This is an excellent move.  Thank you so much for posting this and I hope someone here in Itchmo would know of an animal toxicologist

I second the welcome!

Also I just want to point out that Bob's post says:

Quote
Both samples were listed in the "recall notice"

So it seems that Bob is saying that this was recalled food he is investigating, rather unrecalled food.  (If I am reading the post right.)

Welcome to Itchmo!

Have you called your State Vet Association, the AVMA or other veterinary organizations for specialists in toxicology?

I would assume it was Nutro, since he said "I had two samples tested in conjunction with my legal battles concerning against Menu Pet Foods/ Nutro etc."

http://www.abvt.org/public/index.html

American Board of Veterinary Toxicology

http://www.abvt.org/public/directory.cfm

ABVT Diplomate Directory

A list of doctors and their respective cities and states.  Some of them are connected with universities and others, with private industry and government.  Going to the state level veterinary medical association online, whatever state it may be, should bring contact information for the specialist you select from this list.  For those at Universities, you can also contact them through that.

Example--

Rumbeiha, Wilson. East Lansing, MI

By the address, Dr.Rumbeiha is at Michigan State University.  He can be found at Michigan State or through the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association.

Beasley, Val. Urbana, IL
DeClementi, Camile . Urbana, IL
Gwaltney-Brant, Sharon. Urbana, IL
Hansen, Steven. Urbana, IL
Khan, Safdar. Urbana, IL
Knight, Michael. Urbana, IL
Meerdink, Gavin. Urbana, IL
Morrow, Carla. Urbana, IL
Schell, Mary. Urbana, IL
Volmer, Petra. Urbana, IL
Wismer, Tina. Urbana, IL

By the address again, these specialists are at University of Illinois, Urbana.  They can be contacted either through U of I, Urbana, or the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association.

Sundlof, Stephen. Rockville, MD

Anyone recognize this specialist?  Head of FDA-CVM.

Fikes, James. Rockville, MD
Hausner, Elizabeth. Rockville, MD
Lovell, Randall. Rockville, MD
Post, Lynn. Rockville, MD
Terse, Pramod. Rockville, MD

And because this is where FDA's located, the specialists above would also be FDA employees.

Bob,

You might contact Dr. Symes ["Sims"].  He's an Itchmoer, great doc, and good guy.  If he can't help you maybe he can give you a contact.

Dr. John Symes email:  dogtorj@bellsouth.net

Bob, welcome to the forums.  And thank you for getting your food tested.  Please consider giving Don Earl at petfoodrecallfacts.com a copy of your lab results to post on his web site.  Your food shows another sample, now either the fifth or sixth lab test, showing food testing positive for acetaminophen.

Bob, you said acetaminophen among other things...  Were other toxins/substances found?  If so, which ones?  People with surviving sick pets may be able to get more appropriate vet care for their animals if the vets know what substances could potentially be causing problems...

Thank you for testing and sharing this information with all of us concerned pet owners, many of us, still caring for the pets that managed to survive.  Again, welcome.

Buy local.  Buy organic.
If you ate today, thank a farmer, hopefully a small, local farmer.

Remember the thousands & thousands of pets that died to give US a wake-up call about the safety of ALL food.

Joinig purringfur in thanking you, Bob, for stepping forward. Still caring for two
out of three sick cats. Would appreciate any other findings you got, also, to
mention to my vet if it's okay for you to say.

Bob,

Have you contacted the FDA complaint coordinator for your area?  The only reason I think it is a good idea is they will have another recent positive finding and knowing you have more of the food--may just force the FDA to start talking again about this!  It is going to be hard to keep ignoring us if we keep contacting them---I would then let us know when and if you did so we all know they know!
