The results from some of the tests are up on Don Earls site; www.pfpsa.org under news & updates. Negative for potato toxins & atafloxin, but contains between 2-3 times too much copper. From what little info I or Don could find on overuse of copper,it can particularly harmful to certain breeds. Other metals can cause it to become toxic,& there is not a lot known about how to treat it. This is the food that IMO made my chi Remy extremely sick,& caused lesser symptoms in 4 other dogs who ate from the same bag. I am going to send it for 1 more test & will post when I have results. I would like to do the heavy metals test as it could be whats wrong, but cannot afford that 1.[When checking amounts of copper found naturally in foods,I did find that pheasant is 1 of the highest of the meats. This may be as simple as the fact that no one is checking that, which to me shows a lack of quality control. How can you add appropriate vitamins & minerals if you don't know what is already in the food ?]

I've tested 2 foods now & both have come back way off on ingredients. This is why I homecook. They are getting a" very few" pieces of the dry I feel safest with. Only so in an emergency I will have a food that they are somewhat used to.And neither of these foods had poisonous or toxic ingredients[yet].I won't even give them the dry,or commercial treats every day. What really scares me is that this is a small family owned, kosher co. If they aren't checking who is ?

Its a little more than 2 1/2 times the amount on the bag, which is also the amount suggested for content by dry food matter.I agree ,very scary ! Remy seems to be his old self finally, but it took mo's for all the symptoms to go away.Like I said this is twice for me. Plus what others have found. I just think commercial pf or prepared food of any kind is a crap shoot. You never know what you are really getting. And in the case of vitamins, minerals or meds there is very little info about long term effects. Or how to treat for over exposure to them. Who knows what effect this will have on him over time ? As 1 of my neighbors said, after this happened he looked like he aged 10 yrs ! Not as bad now,but definitely a difference in looks & behavior.

I am afraid that I will be unable to answer any more questions tonight. I am getting married this Saturday and have to pick an elderly aunt up from the airport. I know that I did the honeymoon-wedding thing backwards (for those of you paying attention to my early posts), but it worked out really well for us. I will be able to answer more questions tomorrow.

I'll call Accutrace & Expertox & let you know. I'm sure Accutrace said it would be in the thousands to do all of them. In fact she said it would be cheaper to do hair & nails, but not as accurate. Remy's hair is too short & its been too long for nails now anyway. The problem is like Don said ,which to test for. I know some of them make the effects of copper worse, maybe just them.

Don I thought the potato toxin test was part of the unknown toxin test. Getting confused between my tests I suppose.  Maybe it would be worth doing it also to rule out other things. I will check out toxnet too.
