Hmmm, I can think of several scenarios why Consumer Lab might have different test results than the pet food company...just saying... And didnt we go thru this with Dogswell before where FDA had a product listed on their OASIS report and Dogswell report first showed no batch number then all of a sudden they were able to produce a lab report with the same batch number as FDA? I seem to remember we confirmed with FDA that it was a different product number they tested...... http://itchmoforums.com/news-recall-related/dogswellcatswell-and-yantai-china-pet-foodswanpy-t7372.0.html

UH-HUH! That is what is so horrible about this incident. I literally found out about it today. No one from the FDA ever notified me of this. I just found out about this today. So I do appreciate you bringing this to my attention.
Dogswell, Im confused. If you just found out about this today from this post at Itchmo, how do you know what lot code and container number is affected. The FDA report doesnt show the lot code or container number that I can see and if it does, it doesnt match the numbers in your report.... I e:mailed FDA so that we could get both sides of the story. I just received their response:
The Refusal Action by FDA as recorded in OASIS is correct. The FDA lab found positive for salmonella and the firm had a private lab test a DIFFERENT product code and it was negative for Salmonella. I hope this is helpful.
Sincerely,

As a subscriber to consumerlabs.com for almost 10 years now, I strongly disagree with what Marco/Dogswell has to say in his July letter.
consumerlabs.com requires an annual membership fee to join and get all of their test results. What CL found as far as the Dogswell treats were concerned was that the glucosamine and chondroitin tested WAY BELOW what the package claims each treat provided. Therefore, Dogswell was NOT APPROVED by CL. Each treat, if fed at the stated amount, provided only one milligram of the glucosamine and chondroitin.
Nutramax, Cosaquin, for example, met all of its stated ingredients. Purity and efficacy comes into the testing as well.
Per CL, retesting was performed by a second independent lab where a product failed to contain the amount of its listed chondroitin.
In a nutshell, Dogswell failed twice. Marco should really be more truthful when writing to potential consumers.

Another mistake at Dogswell's expense??? Guess we will just have to see how more treat's testing comes back...I am sure there is aplenty more in consumer cupboards (or as some call it---the stockpile that is all locked up) !

If these lab results are true ...wouldn't this be false advertising...sure hope we find out why there is a discrepancy as Marco calls it...Looks like he posted his remarks over 2 weeks ago ...

This latest info - would that mean that a false chondroitin is being used as in the melamine from the 2007 pet food that caused illness and death in thousands and thousands of pets that still continues to this day? Which pet food company uses the real ingredients and not some dangerous substitutes? Not a one of em will own up to anything. Are our pets just something disposable to them - not given a thought - just seeing those $$$$$$$$$$$$ in their bank accounts?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124813405452166919.htmlWall Street Journal July 21, 2009 Entrepreneurs Strive to Turn Buzz Into Loyalty "In mid-March, Dogswell received a note from a customer who said that her aging dog had arthritic problems, but the dog is now able to walk because of a two-year diet on the company's products, which have added vitamins and supplements. "Marco Giannini, its chief executive, immediately pitched the story to NBC's "Today Show," where in May viewers got to meet Chanel, a dachshund-mix. At 21, she is the world's oldest living dog (120 in human years), as certified by the Guinness World Records. After the show, Dogswell received more media attention from about a dozen local outlets."

I wonder what new "wonder drug" is coming out of China that mimics chondroiton? And what effect it will have on the health of our pets?

The ones who care have the cash registers and see all those $$$$$$$$$$$$. Beginning to feel that they really, truly could care less. That just makes me cook more and more rather than worry if a food or treat really is as represented on the bag or label. There seems to be a lot of things we don't want in there and an over anundance of ingredients that do their own share of harm.
