March 16, 2007, is the day the first pet food recalls related to Menu Foods were announced. These recalls, due to melamine-adulterated wheat gluten from China that damaged or destroyed the kidneys (and other systems) of thousands of pets, continued to expand through the following months.  This fiasco continues to stand as the largest pet food recall in North American history. The true number of pet deaths related to this recall will never be known or acknowledged, but has been estimated by some writers as tens of thousands.

Those of you who are newer members may not know that the forum came into existence as a place of comparing notes and sharing recall information in 2007.

Many members of this forum lost pets, or had their pets' health irreparably damaged, due to the melamine.   Some of those members have moved on, but a fair number are still active here.

Whether you have been a member from the beginning, or joined only recently, I invite you to join me in lighting a candle in memory of the pets we lost due to the horrible events of 2007, and to all the innocent pets that continue to suffer and die needlessly as a result of doing nothing more than eating their pet food.

Here is the link to our candle page:

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

It is with great sadness that I remember all of the little ones that were lost during this time. Candle is lit for them.

Hugs to all of the grieving pet parents who lost pets or are still caring for sick ones that are still with them.
