The news story shows her online at Facebook and it seems this is where she has received similar reports from others.  Does anyone have the link for the Facebook page?

I found this Facebook page mentioning the story, but not any others.

       http://www.facebook.com/10News?v=wall&filter=3

My heart goes out to this woman who has lost her kitty.  But, I cannot find any reference to a class action lawsuit specifically pertaining to Friskies.  I think she could be referring to the class actions lawsuits filed due to the pet food recalls in 2007, but Friskies was not a food that had been recalled.  Purina is included in that lawsuit because of 2 dog foods being recalled.  I think there is another class action lawsuit out there filed by people who are protesting generally to the ingredients in pet food.  But I see nothing specific to Friskies as far as a lawsuit.  As with just about any pet food, there are some complaints on various sites about Friskies and claims that it caused illness.  Pets get ill for any number of reasons and they all eat some brand of pet food.  The only way to know if it is the food is to get animal and food tested.

According to the photos of the food shown in the news story, the products pictured were Friskies Gravy Sensations, a pouched food.  They were new to the market as of April of last year:

Stillsad1 Thank you for your thoughts but no change in household products or anything out of the ordinary. I thought of everything but the only thing that was changed was her food. We bought the Friskies wet food "Complete and Balance" for the first time and fef it to her and within 4 days she was gone. She went from 19-20lbs to 11.lbs. I do have 2 pouches left of the food we fed her and would like to have it tested and I'm working on that now.

I sent her the link to Don's Earl site thru facebook this am...and an invitation here. It looks like she is asking for guidance.

Thank you Pajama_Party. That brought tears to my eyes. I have to find someone who does this kind of testing. If anyone knows of anyone please let me know. I do have 2 packs left that can be tested of what we were feeding her. Yes she was still a baby who was far from being a cat.. She was more human..LOL.. God I miss her.

This sort of gives me chills....a new product and it is in pouch....which normally means gravy which can mean wheat gluten...which can mean melamine.  Carol, I hope she gets the info you sent her thru Facebook.  Thanks for continuing to help petowners.  I know how it felt in 2006/2007, feeling strongly it was food making our kitty sick but not getting any help and having nowhere to turn.  I remember corresponding with several University vet schools asking if they could help...sigh....very few of them would even consider something could be wrong with the food except for a couple but they had no idea what to test for.

I know she got my links for FDA portal and pfpsa.  Hopefully she will feel like someone cares..Whether or not the food has anything to do with the ARF at least she is not alone wondering...I have not seen any other complaints on line as far as I can tell ...hope it stays that way.

Wheat gluten is listed as an ingredient in the pouch foods on the Friskies website.  I checked last night.

Thank you for the invite and support.  Didn't know about this site. Yes guidance and justice for Smokey is what I am looking for, not money like others are saying. I just want it tested. I did report it today to the FDA thanks to Carol for that website. I also attached her labs and medical records. Didn't know this was a fairly new food product. A lot of information I did find was from a friskies hub page that people are leaving comments on. I went to the news first because I didn't know where else to start. This is all new to me.

Kherget,

Do you have someone to test the food yet?  Don Earl runs this site.. www.pfpsa.org   and he has been helpful to a lot of petowners.

This forum is a plethora of info and support....as you will see.

It is never easy losing a pet so quickly no matter the reason.

No, I have no one to test it yet. Does the FDA do the testing for me? I told the FDA that I do have 2 pouches left if they need it for testing. Sorry if I am asking stupid questions..LOL.. All new to me.

Welcome to itchmo, Kherget. I'm so sorry that you have lost your dear friend, Smokey in the way you did. This should never be allowed to happen. Many who post here lost their beloved pets in 2007, so you are among those who understand what you are going through.

Hugs
