Today I went to the FM store on Stevens & made a few purchases including a few cans of various Fancy Feast wet cans.

When I got to the check stand I noticed that one of the cans had been completely opened & the lid had been tightly replaced by hand.

I showed this to the clerk & she agreed with my interpretation. I decided to get paranoid & not buy the other 6 cans which had no visible signs of tampering. I asked her to share this with the manager. She said she would, but she didn't seem nearly as concerned as I was.

I'm trying to be factual here. I don't know whether what I found was intentional by some lunatic & possibly indicative of a larger problem, or just a one off weird situation with no explanation. I sure hope it's the later. I did buy 2 LARGE bags of expensive litter at the same time that I'm going to have to use for financial reasons (I really can't afford to throw away $18 worth of cat litter.) I am a bit nervous about that. Right now the litter is in my trunk.

I also found that their last 2 bottles of the variety of bottled water I've been using were damaged. One was leaking, the other was crushed in on the top.

At minimum i will go to a different Fred Meyer store in the near future!

I hope i am not violating anything by posting this, but in case any other members live in the area, I feel you deserve to know about this.

You could always return the unopened bags of litter for a full refund and go to another store to buy them back.

Hopefully, it was just some very bored child that did that to the kitty food.

I too am hoping it was either an accident, kid-caused, or someone taking a look to see if they wanted to buy it.  I hate to think someone is actually tampering with pet food.  I think the tylenol tampering years ago was in your area if I remember right.  Very scary.  Check everything you buy carefully.

I believe there was a big tampering thing here a few years back. Don't remember what the item was, though. One of the reasons this made me a bit nervous.
