Before the great Itchmo disaster purge (of great posts) I had written about my 5 m/o rescued Siamese as having suspicious traits of e.g, a Flying Raptor and now, I must concede, Tasmanian Devil... (what do those ferals in Napa County feast on - wine?)

Last night MULAN of SIAM appeared to be entering another "growth phase", as her energy levels could fuel the lights of a small town. She flit through the house like a white blur, seeing how many pieces of furniture she could tag along the way. Instead of truly settling down for the night... she merely pretended ..

Then she got up, while we were asleep.

She got into the kitchen. which is structurally open to the other parts of the house.

She is obsessed with water, and even more obsessed with the garbage disposal hole. Which is covered tightly. She can watch water drop endlessly, and MUST KNOW where it comes from and where it is going.

She turned on the faucet. We have the bung hole to the garbage disposal tightly on so she can't get in.

Yes, she flooded the sink.

Something woke me up this time to catch her and prevent a floor level flood.

She's a TAZMANIAN DEVIL in disguise as a sweet little kitten.

And I can't lock her in the bathroom - that's her delight, there are lots of faucets, and she plays with them to a tune. Despite her run in with the toothpaste, this morning there were toothpaste tracks over the counter. We hid it after the last time she came out of the bathroom batting the side of her mouth with her right paw, having just gotten into the minty paste. Did she hide some?  Did we lose track of one of several tubes? Truly she has outwitted me.

Her "father" is no help. She has him wrapped around each and every paw. All he says is she is one of the most intelligent cats alive (just because she's a born soccer player).

She needs training! Is there a book on training Tasmanian Devils?!!!

Wow, that is like having a toddler around the house!  If this little one didn't have a "behavior problem", she certainly would not be anything to write about and how I enjoyed reading this, Anna!

Thank you for the watering adventures, and please keep writing about Mulan's (mis)behaviors, they are refreshing.

Sincerely,
Donna

She's definitely part Siamese!  She sounds like a combination of my three Siamese and my new Bengal kitten.  My Bengal kitten (4 months old) is already fascinated with water.  I caught him watching me turn the faucet on and off last night.  I thought to myself, "He is going to learn how to turn it on himself.  I know he's trying to figure it out."

Good luck "training" your girl.  She sounds like a ton of fun.

When I see her figuring things out I am reminded of the line in Jurassic park where the baby raptor "learns", and the character says "Clever Girl"... but I think he gets eaten right after that.

She is delightful, especially at 2 in the morning!

So far she will kiss (lick a nose), "give me five", jump onto a lap when asked, and when she wants to play, will bring her rings on a string to me, lay them out in geometric precision neatly in front of me. She's scary smart that way. I mean geometric, right angles, equilateral triangles, straight lines, she is telling me something...

Then again, she has added eating soil to her repertoire; she will fight me for the computer mouse, and I mean FIGHT! She will nip my fingers for control of it, and then she tries to chew it to bits, I can't help but laugh and give it over to her, then all my unfinished ratty emails get accidentally sent that way. She also has changed TV channels with the remote by chewing on it, and *has figured out the connection between her chewing and something happening."

I have to take her to the vets today for her last basic vaccine UGH.

Anna- Maybe you should try a small kong fiiled with dry kibble or zukes treats at night. It would give her a puzzle to work on.As far as the furniture,I have given up. All my edges & corners have packing tape or duct tape on them. They don't like the feel of it & leave it alone.Just wait til she figures out how to turn door knobs & open doors !For the toothpaste, next time 1 is almost empty put hot sauce on the opening & leave it out. She'll only do that once. Grin Again I feel for you. My Oreo is 7 & still going strong.Whenever we yell" Oreo bad cat",my chi chases him away from whatever he is doing.

Grin  Mulan sounds like a handful.  Wish we could harness some of that energy.

She is just a baby, though.  Exploring her world.  Her papa is right.  She is VERY intelligent.  Learning to turn on faucets?  Wow!  Give her tons and tons of toys.  Play with her a much as you can.  Every little bit that you can do will help wear her out.

You know what would really wear her out, though?  A brother (or sister).  Two kittens will tire each other out!

Why do cats always jump on your lap with their claws out?  Especially when you are wearing shorts?

You're right! She does need a kitten and I wish we could do three, but I can't right now, not enough space! She brings her toys to me in her mouth, lays them at my feet, how can I say no! She's made me laugh more than I have in a long time... many has been the night I sack out on the couch until she wears herself down, before I retire.

She is getting the older one off his duff, running him around, and he's becoming more spry - leaping up onto stacked boxes to evade her. The other day, the first time in over 1 year (and esp. since he got hit with the tainted food) he displayed some kittenish moves of his own, stalking her, and actually PLAYING!

oooooh, she sounds like a stinker.  Does she fetch for you?

Maybe she can get her big brother energized to play enough to meet her little kitten needs.

Yikes, that is a rough age.  She will calm down though....in about a year and a half!!!1 Grin

Don't count on her calming down. Oreo[7 yrs] still chases poor Punkin all over the house. He's 16 & twice Oreo's size but has been treed out on the ceiling beams trying to escape multiple times !Oh well, like you said keeps him on his toes.

Does she fetch? Yes, and how! She is always fetching toys, retrieving stuff I have squirreled away under the bed, (she found a "lost" hiking stick that way)...

This morning I slept in, and they both have (prefer) towels to lay on the bottom of the big bed. One is  a base, a second, pretty colored makes a protective ring. She dragged her blue towel up and almost over me!  (I often covered her in the night when she was little and real sick and thin)... hows that for fetching!

I find it hard to leave this energetic fur-bundle of love and joy to go on my trips...

Mulan did that last night and this morning, I watched her walk by the 12 y/o as though saying, "I'll be back!" as she calmly sauntered by him; he just reached up and smacked her once! They have this little dance going on, but whenever she gets herself in trouble, like the bee sting, he is all concerned.

The best though is when I come back home, they sit up at attention facing the door, just like Mr. and Mrs. out of a Norman Rockwell painting.
