KVAL, Eugene Oregon--Lane County--

People aren't the only ones going hungry in the recession.  It has reached the point that a dog food bank has opened in Clackamas County to try to meet the need.

In Lane County, there's no such bank, but help is available.

"People are not abusing this service.  People come in here, they're genuine," says Tom Howard, manager of Lane County Animal Services.

Howard explains anyone who is strapped, who can't feed their animals, should come to the shelter in Eugene for a bag of food.

As you might guess, Food For Lane County is another resource for pet food.  This is food on a pallet that will be shipped out to one of the neighborhood pantries for distribution.

"We'll continue as long as we can and we'll solicit as many donations as we can to help the public," says Howard of LCAS.
