Uncomfortable Answers to Questions on the Economy

You have heard that Fannie and Freddie, their gentle names notwithstanding, may cripple the financial system without a large infusion of taxpayer money. You have gleaned that jobs are disappearing, housing prices are plummeting, and paychecks are effectively shrinking as food and energy prices soar. You have noted the disturbing talk of crisis hovering over Wall Street.

Something has clearly gone wrong with the economy. But how bad are things, really? And how bad might they get before better days return? Even to many economists who recently thought the gloom was overblown, the situation looks grim. The economy is in the midst of a very rough patch. The worst is probably still ahead.

Job losses will probably accelerate through this year and into 2009, and the job market will probably stay weak even longer. Home prices will probably keep falling, shrinking household wealth and eroding spending power

I agree, its my imagination that every single thing on my shopping lists has gone up $.50 to  $1. Its also all in my head that when I saw gas the other day for $3.85 it cost me $42 for 1/2 a tankful. I have a really creative imagination don't I ?

I just wish Bushy and company had to live on a yearly wage of less than $17, 000! - and pay $4 a gallon for gasoline to get to work every day! Sure it is just in my head!!

Yes, I guess its my imagination too, that the oil bill showed $4.71 a gallon and over $580.00 total and that was only a half a tank.  I think I remember screaming right before I passed out.....LOL   Grin

No kidding!!!!  I did my usual shopping for the week on Sunday, bought the usual stuff.  It was nearly $30 more than usual!  This is insane!  Oh no...according to Phil Gramm I am insane for thinking this is insane.

That I would like to see too.  Especially Phil Gramm.  He needs a serious dosage of reality.

What I don't understand is that while we are suffering from the gas prices, the Dems are working on imposing
$0.10 to $0.50 more per gallon in fuel taxes so your gas will cost even more if they gain more control. Yet,
that is okay? To me, it isn't okay for either party to raise taxes right now. They need to cut spending, not
try to fund all their wildest projects, especially earmarks and pork.

Bridget same thing happened to me with the bill being $30.00 higher when it was all rung up. I even asked the cashier after the shock set in - "Are you sure you rang that right?" And to even think of slapping another gas tax to we'll consume less gas - no we won't consume less gas if we have to keep getting to work - we will just consume less of everything else which will put more people out of work and more companies will close their doors from lack of us spending cause we should pay more for gasoline so we'll use less - WTF kinda sense does that make?
