Trudy, those are good pictures. I'm glad you are OK, but sorry the others in your area had such problems from the storms.

The reason I took some of these are so some people can see that a tornado rips, shreds, and tears things, not blows them. Hope no one is getting tired of seeing these? Thanks Grin

Oh my gosh.  Just down the road from you?  What a close call! I hope they never come that close to you again!  I feel for the people who had all the damage.

Have you sent your pictures to CNN?  They have a link on their homepage for what they call Ireporters--eyewitnesses among the public.  These are certainly worthy of publication there.

Catbird, I didn't know CNN had anything like that? And i did get there before the news people.
Thanks Arlo, that would be a dream job for Me, if i could ever do anything like that. I would love it.
Rom6, I know, this is much worse. but i did go through Hurricane Isabel, and it went right over us. i remember the beginning, the middle, and the ending. I have lots of pics of that, too. That one put most of our mighty oaks down and almost killed my cat house, We were without power for over 2 weeks. Plus We couldn't get off the road because of flooding and downed trees. And then a huge limb fell on My car, breaking the windshield and all.
Sence I have moved here to the south, We've had tornados, one did hit our house the first year. We've had hurricanes, and a huge flood. Made Me want to go back home, and have a good northeaster, wind, snow and all. I just wanted to go home to Maine.
Thanks Mainecoonpeg, for thinking of us, And catmom5 and all of you.
And out of all this, the good news is that no one got hurt.

The link for I-reports is on the right-hand side of the page, about halfway down.

http://www.cnn.com/

You can click to see which stories they want reports on.  If they don't have one for NC/VA tornadoes, maybe you can email them and suggest it.  They often have weather ones.

OK, now I am worried about catwoods, who I think lives in Georgia, since there were tornadoes in Georgia last night...praying that they are OK.  I have relatives in Georgia too, in fact, because of a university graduation this weekend a larger number than normal of them are in Georgia.  But I'm assuming everything is OK with them, or I would have heard by now.  They were not near the tornadoes.

Thank you for thinking of me, catbird, we are OK, having experienced a weakened part of the storms. I'm glad your relatives weren't near the tornadoes. The news tonight said there have been 800-some tornadoes in the US this year which is twice the usual average number, whew.

The people in the midwest, as well as those in Georgia were hit hard by this storm system, so they all probably need some of our good thoughts and prayers.

I'm just now getting on. We had more terrible tornados last night. ending up losing power. These were even closer. Let's just say it was a good mothers day up until then Sad
We have such small towns I think the news doesn't know Wer're here sometimes, so it doesn't get reported. It's just a mess here.
I'm tired and want to read the posts, then i'll come back and tell you about them.
I hope no one else had any? Let Me know.

I hate tornados & tornado warnings.

My furkids got me up at 4:44 sunday am or close to it. I turned on TV. Warning for my county & showed 5:09 for my city.. north Clayton county. Ellenwood down the road.

I got in hall closet. Cat's wouldn't, dang it. I am sorry for the folks down the road, but I'm sure happy for my neighborhood. Sigh. Awful scare. I'm going to have to get a crate for the closet to put them all in.. never again do I want to worry about them with a cracked closet door and warnings going off.

Trudy and Offly, I'm again glad to hear you are both OK. I  used to have a cat that would stay in my lap during the warnings. But now most of them, once the weather gets rough, disappear to hiding places under the couch! For them, that may be a fairly safe place, hopefully. The crate's a good idea, I may try that.
Klondike, the weather patterns have definitely changed over the years, according to my (well, questionable) memory. When I was growing up you never heard of tornadoes in Virginia and NC.

I know. And now everytime it says a warning, we are getting them. We had at least 2 in My neck of the woods. couldn't have been any closer.
I always wondered about the cats, but i don't want them in a cage if they get blown away. i'm afraid that might hurt them more? i really don't know. the dogs stick to Me like glue, so they will come to the closet or hall with me.
I think i'm just tired, depressed and sick of it. all my kids had warnings so i worried all night.
and it's so cold and windy today, you can't do anything.
Pics coming later.

Yeah, tornadoes just drive me nuts. I wonder if there are any weather service guidelines on animal safety? You just never know exactly what the damage will be. When pets are inside and the house falls downward then being inside a sturdy carrier or under something sturdy would be good. But being lifted and blown around would be another story. Scary to even talk about!

You never know exactly what will happen in a tornado. When inside, we ourselves tend to plan as if getting hit by falling debris is a greater possibility than being blown away. We are surrounded by trees. But I actually haven't heard any discussions about which is more likely.

A quick search did not yield very much, or very detailed, information on pet safety during tornadoes.

This site says "Keep pets on a leash or in a carrier."      http://www.weather.com/ready/tornado/warning.html

This one has general information on pet safety in disasters; I took a brief look but only saw a photo of cats waiting out a tornado warning in a bathtub:
