Why is a thread in the "Unmoderated Discussions" being moderated?

My two cents (that and five pennies will get you a nickel!) - If you are on Itchmo to exclusively talk about pet food, post pictures of your pets, rate pet toys, etc - stick to the many boards devoted to pet related topics.  If you are interested in reading/discussing non-pet related things (Bigfoot, politics, crime, etc)  with your Itchmo friends, there are a few boards at the bottom of the forum devoted to those things.  IOW, read and post in the boards which interest you, ignore those that do not.   Smiley

Why is a thread in the "Unmoderated Discussions" being moderated?

Was there hate speech or criminal activity being discussed?  Because it says those will be deleted on that board.

Definition of Hate Speech:  Bigoted speech attacking or disparaging a social or ethinc group or a member of such group.  No one is trying to foster any hatred here.

This an excerpt taken from The Psychology Of Trolls by Mary Jean Holmes. Yes it is a blog but I found her take on this subject to be quite interesting.  Quote: "Like the Trolls of old, they seem to have great strength, given the kinds of trouble they can cause;  but ultimately, also like the Trolls of old, they have little wit.  They all use the same tactics, and they all resort to the same ways of provoking people.  First insult members of the chatroom or board by calling them names, ridiculing their comments and questioning their intelligence.  Then start insulting the subject for which the board or chatroom was created.  If that doesn't get enough reaction, start upping the ante by bringing in completely unrelated subjects.  Tell the other participants that they (or the subject under discussion) are prejudiced racially, sexually, ethnically, religiously -- take your pick, they'll eventually hit 'em all, and then go for the jugular: doing all this while throwing in obscene language and casting other foul aspersions on anyone who happens to be within range.  This is, of course, incredibly inflammatory behavior to any marginally civilized person, and a normal sense of justice and fair play naturally demands defense and protest".                                      http://www.mj-holmes.com/trolls.htm  Trolls do not play fair, and are usually themselves prejudiced either racially, ethnically, sexually and/or religiously.

Wikipedia's definition of Flaming (internet). Quote: "Flaming is the hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users. Flaming usually occurs in the social context of a discussion board, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or even through e-mail. An Internet user typically generates a flame response to other posts or users posting on a site, and such a response is usually not constructive, does not clarify a discussion, and does not persuade others. Sometimes, flamers attempt to assert their authority or establish a position of superiority over other users. Other times, a flamer is simply an individual who believes he or she carries the only valid opinion. This leads him or her to personally attack those who disagree. In some cases, flamers wish to upset and offend other members of the forum, in which case they can be called "trolls". Most often however, flames are angry or insulting messages transmitted by people who have strong feelings about a subject."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_(Internet)

Boy that sounds familiar. I never could understand why it bothers anyone if someone has a different opinion. Takes me back to high school.

Yup - sure does sound familiar.  You might want to add another step for the 'flamer' is to delete the original flame post quickly so no 'proof' is left on the board because the original 'flame bait remark' had been ignored. 'Flamer' then goes into the aggressive attack mode as described above.

For some reason, after you posted this title, MrsP, Cher's song keeps playing in my head, and I don't know why.

Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves.   Undecided  Burnt out.

Ahhh.

Flamers, Trolls, and Shills.
We'd hear it from the bloggers on the 'net.
They'd call us Flamers, Trolls, and Shills
But every day the PFI would come around
And try to shut our forum down.

Actually, this is from the beginning of this thread, way, way back when Mrs. P started it.  Funny how threads change throughout their course.   Grin

Hummmm, no clue on PAP myself.  Looked it up on the internet and found a few possiblities:

1) something a woman has done as part of health screening
2)  a traditional porridge made from mielie-meal
3)  Positive airway pressure
4)  http://www.pap.org.sg/
5)  patient assistance program

for some reason I don't think it is any of those that they mean....
