We're all being asked to accept toxic melamine, toxic radioactive waste, toxic meat, fish -- toxic you-name-it, I guess. China's the worst, probably 'cause Asia's where about half the people on the planet live in very close proximity, but not the only place producing this toxic stuff. Sure hope the world wakes up about what's really threatening most of us. I like to think it can still be dealt with if we start really seriously right now. Am I alone in thinking that?

Maybe import safety will shape up in the coming the years, maybe not. Locally carved wooden cheese graters - new business idea.

some of the checking I did shows that they are sensitive enough. But I'll have to re-read to make sure after I sleep some. And I'll prob shoot off a couple emails for more info.
To me it would be worth it to know. They even have a key chain model, lol!~ The cooking store by me carries a lot of USA items and they're all marked, so for new stuff, I'm usually able to find things. Older stuff though, not so sure. I'll have to see what I have and figure out if a GC is cheaper than just replacing. I have a lot of kitchen "stuff", lol!~ Think of all the metals in your kitchen. Blades, bowls, mixers, pans, roasters, gadgets . . . . and when you bought it. And of course I started replacing kitchen stuff a few years ago . . .
Also, we get so many things that may have been assembled here but have parts from Asia and such. My new TV was labeled as USA and Imported. I think it was assembled and some parts are from here, other parts imported. Which makes sense since it's very much like a computer.

This is very upsetting. Think of the other kitchen tools we might use: spatulas, spoons, etc. Like petslave, I have a grater with a reddish plastic handle. It's stamped "stainless steel, Hong Kong," but mine has no brand name on it. Mine must be 20 years old or more. I wonder if it's safe?
Here's another example of what danger exists when companies/people do not want to pay to properly dispose of their wastes! They made money off of radioactive materials by including them with other scrap metal... sort of the pass-the-hot-potato game. It doesn't matter where the toxicity goes as long as you're able to get rid of it (and not eat into your profits).
Didn't we used to send our discarded electronics and other junk to India by the barge-full to be stripped of metal components or anything else that could be reused or resold? Do I remember a photo of children doing this??

Buy local. Buy organic. If you ate today, thank a farmer, hopefully a small, local farmer.
Remember the thousands & thousands of pets that died to give US a wake-up call about the safety of ALL food.

Is anything safe?

Yes, purringfur, India does big business in scrap metals. Ships, computers, you name it, they process it. And the people that tear it down are very low income and include children.
That's why I won't buy any of those pretty stainless steel pet food bowls from over there. I've heard of the coating on that "stainless steel" coming off after awhile.
Imagine a drawer full of radioactive kitchenware at stomach level for pregnant women, and at head level for children.......

In order to survive with all the MIC s**t, let's see if I have my list up to date: Haz-mat suit to handle & serve kibble to my dog. Perhaps a mask so I won't be inhaling any toxic chemicals. Bleach to wash down everything that the kibble may have touched in case of salmonella or ecoli. Geiger counter to be sure the products I have in my home are not radioactive. Melamine tester to try to determine what has the m-word & what doesn't (if there is such a thing as something that's m-free from China). Strips for me & Hannah to test our pee-pee to see which one of us is winning the contest for the highest concentration of melamine in our pee-pee. I'm sure I've missed some.......feel free to add to my list. Oh, many thanks to the FDA for finally waking up & smelling the melamine & maybe saving a few lives.......not to mention doing their job for a change. Sure hope China isn't offended by this ( ).....

Jan, you forgot the lead test kit to make sure you aren't serving up melamine laced food prepared with radioactive utensils on lead glazed plates . . . . that combo just might make you a tad queasy, if not just dead.

Hey, lead is used as a radiation shield! Do you think we can use our dishes to protect us from our utensils?

Good one, catbird! I'm laughing so hard that my pets are looking at me! What a dangerous mess these large corporations have been allowed to create!
