I just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers and well wishes to anyone that might be in the path of Hurricane Gustav, it sounds like they are predicting it could be worse than Katrina. I hope everyone out there is OK and please if there are any fellow Itchmonians affected, let us know when you can if you are alright. Stay safe please! http://www.weather.com/newscenter/hurricanecentral/update/index.html?from=hp_news

Does anyone know if any of our friends here at itchmo live in LA or TX areas that will be affected by Gustav? Tornadoes are also possible in the aftermath of landfall. It also appears by radar images that FL is also being hit now by the 'arms' of Gustav as it makes its way north to LA.

It does seem strange that we all get to feel like 'family' here at itchmo, seeing as how most posters on the internet thingy want to remain anonymous.

I've got my prayers going for those directly in the path, and for those who have already been affected in the Carribean . These storms are several hundred miles across so my area may be affected, depending on the exact track. I am not directly in the landfall zone, but local weather today says we might get higher winds as early as tomorrow, and later, heavy rain with isolated tornadoes. But we won't leave unless it comes farther east, in which case we will go to town, with the cats of course, to my mother's where there are less trees to fall on us! Any rise in wind will mean I cannot be on the computer, will be off for several days probably, depending. These things always twist and turn and change. Will let you all know as soon as I can!

I echo the concerned thoughts and prayers for those who may be affected by the hurricane. Hurricane watches (which means hurricane-force winds could occur within 36 hours) have now been posted for the Gulf Coast from just on the Texas side of the Texas-Louisiana border to the Alabama-Florida Panhandle border.
I am worried, and have strong feelings of deja vu. The same area, so close to the same date, and a similar strong hurricane. I pray that the governments, and the individual people, are better prepared! I did notice that more people seem to be evacuating, and that better transportation systems have been put in place, especially for those who do not have their own transportation.
I know that we do have some members from Florida.
catwoods, I hope you will not have to evacuate!
Holding all these people and animals in my heart...

Thank you everyone, will try to let you know ASAP. If it's only a small wind that may not be too bad, but we'll still have to be off the computer, although not in danger. I'm very concerned for those in the main path....

Klondike, have you been in touch with your family, are they evacuating? I hope so. I really hope this doesnt end up as big as they are saying and I hope is that no one is injured or dies like last time. I also feel for those that have re-built in the last 3 years, I hope they dont end up losing their homes again.

Stay safe, catwoods, above all else. May all the South be spared. It truly is one of the most beautiful areas of the country on the Gulf Coast. Be safe.

Prayers of safety for all those who will be affected by Gustav. It is very eerie that it's so similar in size. location and date to Katrina. It sounds as if they've done a much better job preparing for this one, though.
