The never ending saga!
My daughter bought a non-stick fry pan because she didn't want to use my old pans.  This morning she made herself a couple of pan cakes and they stuck.  I was just trying to clean the stuck, burned stuff off and scratched the pan.  Looked on the bottom: "Superior Quality BE Basic Essentials Made in China". Well, crapola! So first use the stuff sticks.  Wonderful.  I looked at my old fry pans that I've been using for maybe 20 years or more and they were Mirro made in Wisconsin. I know they weren't expensive, but they're still going strong.  Maybe I should get out my test kit and test for lead.

Mrs P :
What I have heard is that those non-stick pans are bad in their own right, regardless of who made them.  If teflon is hot enough to burn or the pan surface gets dinged,it releases a toxic gas that can harm small animals like parakeets. And what probably gets into the food? Wouldn't surprise me though if lead is now in the mix. Can anything surprise us anymore?

Again we see that we have been back handed by chinese products. Teflon if not applied correctly will chip, burn, and scrape off. Teflon after over heating is toxic.

Best to stick (hee, hee) to regular cookware, or something made here.

I used to think that anyone doing anything weird was weird. I suddenly realized that anyone doing anything weird wasn't weird at all and it was the people saying they were weird that were weird.

I will tell my daughter to take it back, whether they want it or not.  And tell them it didn't last through one use.  I can't find Mirro pans for sale anymore that aren't non-stick, so I guess mine must be pretty old. (I wonder if Mirro is still made in the US.)

MrsP I have used stainless steel for years. Didn't like the fact that the coated pans eventually came off and now  know it ends up in your food. And with the advanced testing yes the fumes given off by the teflon will kill pet birds. So who wants to eat that or feed any of it to a child either? Anyone know where I can find a stainless steel bundt pan? I know Nordic Ware makes them but have not been able to find any?
