Hi there, I am thinking about getting back into my pet photography. I just ordered a few more programs to help Me out. When I get my other computer up and running, i'll show you some of the real good pics I have taken. This is a question for you all- If I went "on the road" with my photography, what would You be willing to pay for a few real good photos of your pets? I don't charge too much right now, but i'd love to be able to take your pets photos. What i usually get is a bunch of photos and let the people pick out the best 5. that's free for the sitting fee. then, if they want more, i charge a very small fee for the others. Even made into 5X7 or 8X10 is not that much. So you get the sitting and 5 -4X6 "finished" photos. Just let Me know how much You think you would be willing to pay. you can PM me of course. thanks, and please let me know.

What a splendid idea! What to charge? Gee... I've never had a pet sit for a photo but many times, my grandsons had their photos taken professionally at school. They would come home with a packet and we were to choose which sizes to order. If I remember corectly, they would have "packages" like 8 passport photos and 2 medium size one and 1 big one to hang and the lot will cost just under $50.00. With two boys, we never ordered anything more than $20.00

Trudy, the pics I've seen on here from you are very good. I would check a number of pet photographers' fees and see if you can come up with a good number for your work. You can probably look at prices online.

Trudy, I agree your photos here are really good, Great Idea! I don't know about what to charge but agree best to look at what other pet photographers charge. I know there are people taking pictures at dog club events, they might be good contacts to find out what they charge and as well as what type of packages they offer.

Trudy- Its been a long time since my kids were young enough for me to know current prices. I do think its a good idea though ! Your pix that you have posted are really good. Maybe you could do a search online for packages & pricing to get an idea.

I've always enjoyed the photos you post, Trudy, so I think this is a good idea.
Everyone has given you some good marketing ideas. I agree with what others have said, that pet events, dog and cat shows, are good places to start.

I've also heard of photographers networking with groomers (referrals working both ways), pet sitters, veterinary offices, pet supply stores, etc. At my university clinic, they have beautiful photos of some of the patients, in the waiting area. It's calming and encouraging, I think (my long-retired vet did this also). I've also read of "coffee table books" and "a year in the life...", where a pet is photographed at intervals for a year.
Good luck, Trudy!

Trudy, I think this is a wonderful idea. I can't wait to see the pics you have done. I agree with the others about looking into other photographer's prices to determine a good price. Best of luck!

Trudy, if you post pics on the internet, make sure to put some kind of copyright "watermark" all the way across them so no one can use them for their own purposes. Not sure how these are added, but if you check other photographers' websites, you'll probably see them on all their pics.

That program I used to make Trevor's picture in the Den can add watermarks, text, whatever you want quite easily. You definitely want to protect your work before posting. There is another application you can use to build photo galleries to either post at their site or your own website; some of the templates for it have the feature for easily adding watermarks & copyright info as well. If you PM me I can send you links for the programs and for a site I maintain using those tools - not sure if I'm allowed to post the program links here.
