I priced organic turkey and found it ranged from $4.95 to $6.75 a pound!  For a smaller 12 pound turkey, that would be a price range of around $60 - $80.  Yow!  No way the average person can afford that!  I bought a small turkey from a local farm for $1.19 a pound.  Free range, humanely raised, no additives, etc.  I spent about $15.  That's the best I could do. Same size is running about $12 in the grocery store, or free with a zillion dollars of groceries. Is the organic turkey business geared towards those few people left who still have disposable income?

That is an excellent price.

We bought 2 fresh turkeys (Connecticut farm) $2.69 at a local grocer.  These were big ones.  Not much $$ left for the trimmings.  Last year was the first time I ever purchased a local turkey.  It reminded me of the turkeys we had at Thanksgiving when I was a child.  The price went up a lot since last year IMO.

Mine was 4 a pound. I didn't get my act together to find a farm on my own, so I went with the same store that I got a fresh one from last year. They send an email around as you do have to reserve them. I bought 2. Yeah, pricey, but if they are like last years, damn worth it  Grin The second one I got is small and I'll freeze it for later when you can't get them and I'll want one. I do make a lot of meals out of them, so it's really not anymore than I pay for my other free range organic meats when it comes down to meal planning.

My turkeys are being delivered sometime between 2 and 4 today.   Grin

Sorry to hear about Poco's health  Sad

5 bucks a pound for organic breast is great! At that price I would even share with the cats  Grin I can get a boneless, no antibiotics breast roast (non-organic but from a local safe source) for $6.99 lb. I buy them when they are on special at $4.99. Have a couple in the freezer. All of the fresh organic breasts are sold out, so I can't pull up a price.
