(continued from above) I do see some writings about the oil leak that I consider far-fetched and I screen those out and don't post. I'm aware that the oil gets buried deep in the sand through wave action bringing more sand in, every day. Still, I wouldn't want to see anyone add to that by sanding over it on purpose. MC, thanks for your appreciation of my postings. I don't wish to upset anyone here so I don't always express all of my opinions, and I hope I have not upset you in anything I've posted. Here's an article on a new technique, UV light, for finding oil in sand: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/09/glowing-oil-gulf-spill-cl_n_639515.html?ref=fb&src=spThis is a first hand account from someone who was on the rig during the explosion: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/greenspace/2010/07/gulf-oil-spill-witness-gives-harrowing-account-of-deepwater-horizon-disaster.htmlSparty that sounds terrible in every way. Today I saw this: http://www.windycitizen.com/chicago/news/2010/07/28/19000-barrels-of-toxic-oil-race-toward-chicagos-drinking-water-supply

Please note edits on my above two posts if you read those before 7:30 pm CST on Wednesday, July 28, '10. Sometimes I do rush to post before every thought gets completely "jelled" .

We don't have to agree to learn from each other. That's what makes internet posting among nice intelligent people so great! And I'm grateful to every poster who tries to contribute to my understanding base. I unabashedly detest these oil smucks and everything they stand for in case I haven't made that clear at this point, and apologize to no one for feeling that way. But am always willing to listen ...

No problem with the free exchange of ideas here, either. No kind words whatsoever for the oily companies at this house. 3cat, good article on the investigations. I hope everything done by these companies comes to light. Too bad there's not yet any technology that will make industrial safety violations fluoresce and stand out against the landscape the way ultraviolet reveals oil on sand. Whoever patents that one could call it "ultraviolate light" . Yeah, I know there's nothing funny about this at all but I can't maintain without goofing around at times. Also good to see the pelicans successfully restored to the wild. Well, here goes, groan and sigh: That other busted Gulf wellhead: http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2010/07/crews_work_on_busted_wellhead.htmlMichigan; warning photo of poor little muskrat being cleaned up: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/29/us/29michigan.html?_r=2&hp

catwoods, the nola.com link doesn't seem to work for me if you still have it. By any chance was it the story of a well rig that got rammed yesterday and was currently gushing into the Gulf, even though no one knew who the well rig belonged to? I couldn't believe it when I read that and now can't re-find the link as I delete history a couple of times a day.
The Michigan leak sounds like another long lasting disaster in a pristine river area.
I think I have a multiple problem solution. Remember the CCC from the Depression in the 30's? Well, it's getting pretty obvious we need a major infrastructure rebuild from oil and gas lines to roads to communications equipment to alternative energy sources. Now, you'd think private industry could do this, but apparently is unwilling to reinvest the huge profits in infrastructure. So let's get busy and put people back to work with a government employer who can then charge private business for repairing their messes. Just a thought that worked for FDR at a time of huge unemployment, which is here again and sure not helped by BP's oil disaster.

got that link working now, 3cat. something told me to check back in and check the links....
Great idea about the FDR style work projects. There's plenty that needs fixing.

Just heard on tv that pipe is 40 yrs. old that ruptured. Time for repairs on these pipes that break and then foul the water. Too many leaks and gushers happening...........

I thought of you, JJ, and possibly others here, when I read in another article about the oil going towards Lake Michigan, since it supplies drinking water. I hope they can get that stopped soon!

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE65O5TA20100730BP lawsuits over oil spill take center stage Absolutely fascinating how claimants and defendants are circling. Never occurred to me that companies forced to shut down Gulf of Mexico oil rigs might go after BP for their losses - amazing what that could amount to.

catwoods, I hope those "New Orleans krewes" march all over this country and England, right up to the Whitehouse and Number 10 Downing Street, and into every Senator and Congressperson's office. Thanks for posting.
